Talking of Farnborough Gate.. Have you tried the new one in Aldershot?

Can't decide which one is better - it's definitely not the one in Camberley by Audi, terrible every time I've been there.

I've since moved north to Berkshire (almost a year ago now). I've never eaten in Aldershot despite shopping at the Morrison's there. Both the Farnborough gate and Farnborough town centre were consistent enough (it's McD's, so I don't have high expectations). Generally when picking McD's, the one that's easiest to get to wins for me.

Never went to the one in Camberley. I'd usually go to 7bone if I were driving that far. Sounds like I dodged a bullet.

Just spent the thick end of a week in Japan surviving on McDonald's when on my own.

Observations:

1) No "new ordering system" everyone just queues up and orders
2) "Big Mac, Fries, Sprite" are understood the world over
3) The collection system is the same, your number comes up and your food is ready
4) Every single meal was piping hot, freshly cooked, and supplied and packaged impeccably i.e. not thrown in a bag missing various straws/napkins/sauces as seems to happen here more than you'd hope
5) They have some "local" items like the Gran Teriyaki which I really wish they'd introduce here

Sounds like my mate who spent 2 weeks with us in Thailand and ate entirely at Mcd's, KFC and Burger king. When he couldn't find one it was Pringles from the 7-Eleven. Was a very tiresome trip with him.

I'm often in Japan for weeks at a time and after lots of Japanese food, it is good to have a durger sometimes!

McFlurries are also very welcome given the temperature there!

"When on my own" yes.

I don't speak or read Japanese and didn't want to take any risks.

I really don't mind if people think I'm a chump for eating a few McDonalds v risk screwing up a trip of a lifetime by not being sure what I was eating and either leaving it or having an upset stomach - the occasions where I ate Japanese we were with Japanese people.

Safe option.

If you go again, look on Youtube for "Abroad in Japan" - lots of guides for eating in Japan. You are missing out - there is very little risk of a dodgy tummy in Japan, they are too "by the book" for health and safety.

Indeed, I couldn't imagine going all the way to Japan and not eating Japanese food. In fact that may as well be the main reason for me going! I'd find it impossible not to pop into into one of those little noodle places, sitting down at the counter and asking what was good today! I might make the odd mistake but I can't imagine anything (barring a poorly prepared fugu - which I expect you would be extremely unlucky to encounter) would wreck my trip.

This.

It can be difficult when you don't know the local language. Travelling through South America with about 12 weeks of Spanish lessons wasn't easy... and there wasn't a fancy touch screen ordering system back then either, nor many McDonalds.

I was thinking that too, if Japan is even vaguely similar to other parts of Asia (and restaurants in the UK) I've been to, even decent places have pics or models of the food on offer so it's not hard to get something to eat by smiling at the waiter, pointing and rubbing your tummy at the same time smile

Back on track now -- I've been getting vouchers for McDonalds being posted through my door recently, so I've been nipping in for the odd 1.99 burger and fries or breakfast. Does the job.

I've caused a bit of trouble a couple of times by tossing the voucher in the bin between the screen and the the collection point as the server has wanted to take the voucher (I guess to prevent it from being used again) which is a bit of a pain.

Agree with that. Ten minutes is a long wait..............
Once waited 20 minutes at the drive through overflow window for a meal.I even called the restaurant demanding to know where the fk my food was as I couldnt attract any attention!
And waited 30 minutes for a breakfast order-poor girl delivering stuff to waiting cars was getting a lot of abuse..well,it was Blackpool
(luckily I was in no rush either time)

I travel the world quite a bit, I am always keen to eat the local food, but I must say it's quite fun to go to a McDonalds and try the local variants. Some are good, some aren't worth it. A chicken curry 'McMaharaja' burger in Bangalore (along with table service even 12 years ago) was great.

I don't really have time for people like the friend above who simply won't try anything local at all and only eats at fast food restaurants, and I squirm at the amount of brits flowing out of the local MaccyD's in the canaries, Balearics, etc.

I should say that when calling I was polite but firm. I find shouting at people who can spit(or worse!) in your food counter-productive smile

Does anyone use the McDonald's app to order?

I seem to be the only one, from what I've observed when I've been to the restaurants.

It's so easy and can do it in advance.
