Im looking at going down the PCP route on a Fiesta st3 when my current insurance is up later on this year. Insurance is about 1600 with admiral. The monthly payments are about 200 with a 2k deposit for a 17 plate (for some reason a 17 plate is 1k cheaper to insure :/) for 4 years and 12k miles (as i drive a lot) i was just wondering if there was many other people who have gone down this route at 18? I've also looked at getting a 120d/120i auto because i know its probably a lot more sensible to have for 4 years however the ST just seems more fun. I also do a few long journeys every couple of months from Bath to Sheffield to visit family and i was just wondering what the st is like on the motorway as i know the 1 series would be a dream to be in compared to my little 1.3 yaris lol. The main thing is i dont want to get bored of the car i choose but be stuck in a 4 year contract. Thanks in advance

Just stick to the Yaris and enjoy being debt free and put the money towards buying a house. Part of being young is having a crap car that you will always remember and want to buy back when you in your 40's

I would have thought that having that much debt at 18 would be a nightmare.

I went down the PCP route at 21 and still to this day regretted it. You'd be better off taking the £200 a month and sticking it in a help to buy ISA. It'll do far more for you than the dead money that is PCP

The above advice is probably not what you want to hear but believe me, it is good advice.

All of the above
I'm currently 22 and went from a Astra, to a DS3, to a Golf GTD and currently have a C class coupe. It's always your first car you will always remember and want back. Apart from that, I could've saved a hell of a lot of money and probably got a house by now which I deeply regret.

I understand you want a nicer car so why not go for the middle ground and get a older fiesta st. You could get a 14 plate one for around 10k.

I kind of agree with the advice above, I'd only caveat it by saying that it might depend on your work situation, if you have a good job earning good money the debt may not be such a burden.

That said, I've had debt at various times and it always weighs on my mind.

If you're not earning a good wage you will severely regret taking it on when the shiny new car is a bit less new and a bit less shiny.

I second the above foe example the cars are all low mileage & if the age bothers you get a private plate, the money saved means even if the insurance is slightly more expensive you'll have the money spare.

Also look at a bank loan as the APR is normally lower than PCP.

Thanks for the advice, i was thinking of maybe looking at clio 182s but i dont know how reliable they are. However they are a bargain for the amount of power. I dont know how likely i am to get a bank loan at 18, but if i can i think thats defo what ill do smile anyone had a 182 and know how good they are as a daily? Or a lupo gti i think are really cool.

Go for the Clio if you want to have a great car but check your insurance first as you may be surprised at the cost.

I got qouted 2000 for a 182 and 2.2k for the 197 with admiral with 1 year ncb with both parents on the policy. The only other cars i can think is the mk6 st (insurance is 1900) or the old cooper s but they are crap apparentley. Any other suggestions for used cars like these? Originally i was going to get a austin mini but i dont think its a wise choice as i do so many miles.

Cooper S is a great car, its just the cheap ones need to be avoided. Go and find a nice Suzuki Swift Sport

I was looking at an 06 one with about 42k miles for 4k and the insurance was fairly cheap considering the price for the 182 but ive heard so many negative thing about them.
Are the swift sports any good? Theyre suprisingly cheap but im not sure if id wished for something with more power.

They're not used as rental cars at the 'Ring for nothing.

I doubt you'd be wanting more power. I've got 115bhp in my focus and I don't think I've ever wished for more, and the most fun car I've owned had 105bhp, and as much torque as an electric toothbrush.
