What's a classic? Air cooled only? Or is early 3.4 996 now allowed?
Any really, just trying to find out what owners do to try and deter theives.I have owned porches in the past but always had a garage but now that as been converted into a room, and later this year I am going to look for an SC but won't have a garage.

Who keeps their classic on a driveway all year, and what sort of security measures do you take.
One of the reasons I finally sold my 964 was because I only had driveway storage. That was more for the concern for its well being when subjecting it to the elements rather than the worry about it being stolen. Used to take the battery off when left for a long time so that would have stopped some efforts. And it would just go flat anyway!A year later I moved house and got one with a garage! Doh!

However my 993 has a year on my drive (locked behind 6” gates mind plus a steering lock). The biggest downside is that everything underneath corroded....... ie brand new engine bolts exhaust bolts and clamps etc . I’d assume that’s because of the damp sitting under the car. Only surface rust but damn annoying after I’d replaced a lot of it.

Rather than a steering lock, if you have no airbag then remove the steering wheel !

I have this on on my SC... Has a pass through for the horn connection, and is thin enough to still be able to reach indicators.

Although my Cayman isn't a classic (yet!), I'm a firm believer that light is the best way to deter a thief.
I have a few bright solar powered lights with movement sensors that come on whenever anyone walks past the drive, and my house lights are timed (randomly without regular pattern) whether or not I'm in.
Mine has an immobiliser so no good unless thy have a key, but perhaps with a classic a bollard at the end of the drive would be deterrence enough.

What will deter theives is parking it somewhere else on the road so they don't know where the keys are
This and disconneting the battery are both good deterrents. As are physical things like posts and gates etc. Lights also help but if they really want to steal it they will unless there is something physical stopping them doing so.Wozy68 said:

I don't think your 6-inch gates are much of a deterrent TBH. However my 993 has a year on my drive (locked behind 6” gates mind plus a steering lock).
