Going there tomorrow for 6 days - work. Will be not working on Sat and Sun. What can I do? Can you cross the border into spain?

Buy cheap spirits and see a monkey.

You really don't want to cross the boarder to La Linea.

Are you going to have access to a car?

If you had more time in might be worth trying a day trip to Tanger in Morocco.

Yes - easy (at the minute!) to cross the border.

Not much to see/do in Gib and if you are there for work the other 4 days then you will see it enough in the evenings! Walk up the rock and see monkeys. Ocean village for a drink in Brunos or The Ivy (for sport as a Brits abroad pub) and you can have a gamble at the casino opposite.

The days off you can head to Spain. Ronda is pleasant - decent roads. I am also a fan of Old Town Marbella (very different to the Marbs sorts of Puerto Banus). Estepona and Sotogrande both en route that direction too.

Avoid La Linea - its a dump.

Yes crossing the frontier is usually pretty easy. However the Guardia Civil have been known to cause deliberate hold ups especially during times of political tension. This is usually at evening rush hour and the Sunday evening when people return. Given the frontier was in the news this week because of Brexit, exercise a little caution, go by foot not car and bookmark the frontier webcam to see the current situation http://www.frontierqueue.gi/ There is a interesting street market in La Linea on a Saturday. Probably save this for any return visit once you've got your bearings.

Gib has a very active night life and a lot of young Brits work there, ask around the place you are visiting/working. There is a good chance there is a group that will start partying from 4pm Friday evening until Sunday afternoon. If you are older or more senior, ask for recommendations and you might get an invite to a boat party.

There is a Casino, several decent restaurants and bars at Ocean Village. I can highly recommend Gauchos steak house near the bus station and Casements. Buses are regular, clean and cheap. There is a small museum in Casement square.

Definitely recommend you take one of the rock tour mini buses. The price varies depending on how many people are board. Expect to pay around £30 but it is worth while, you will see the monkeys caves and military defences. Don't take any food with you, the monkeys will mug you, instead be ready to watch them mug the mug that does. Really don't risk it. The are monkeys, Barbary Macaques but many people call them apes because they are tail-less.

There is cable car that will take you to the restaurant at the summit, at this time of year it will only operate during the day, so Sat or Sunday.

There are dolphin tours from the marina, these can be brilliant or a bust, depending entirely on the mood of the dolphins, on a good day they will play in the wake and bow wave and is like being in a wild life documentary. The price is very negotiable, so don't accept the first price, which will probably be around £40 or more, haggle and £25-30 should be easy to obtain.
