Not as photogenic as I would of liked but made one of my favourites tonight, creamy chicken with spinach and sun dried tomatoes.

The results of my Kiwi Fruit tenderiser are in..............

Verdict: It most certainly works a treat as compared to a quick chew of Wifeys 'plain' one. But to be honest I'll stick to a sirloin or fillet and use rump for stews etc. Might try the pineapple method at some point though.

Dogs enjoyed the leftovers though.........

Sunday dinner / lunch

I did the beef and pork belly. We oven cooked the cheap frozen gammon and chicken as it was a last minute rush as wife’s brother and dad wanted a plate.

Wife overcooked the Yorkshire puddings a tad but I love them crispy.

Gravy and condiments were put on post pics.

Feeling pretty proud of myself having bossed a Portuguese dish, carne de porco alentejana (essentially pork and clams).

Yes, and it's not a million miles from the stuff I eat regularly.

Cool… haven’t made it for a while, but you mentioning pork, clams and Portugal has reminded me I need to make it again.

Had a go at making a slow cooked sugo at the weekend. Pork shoulder, beef shin, anchovies, tons of nduja etc. 20 hours in the slow cooker and then finished in the oven.

That looks delicious. I’d be interested to get an idea of the recipe as I thought sugo was just tomato sauce?

I’ve got loads of pork shoulder to defrost and use….

well not sure but it's kind of an attempt at re-creating a dish called house sugo which was a favourite on the menu of a pasta place called sugo near where I live. It accounted for most of the plates they sold as it was that good, which I think was a bit of a frustration for the owners as they wanted people to try different things. It was sort of a daft local thing that they refused for ages to reveal the secret recipe, but then they re-branded later, dropped it from the menu and shared it anyway...

I can't find the original but this is fairly close (ignore the weight watchery website, it isn't remotely low cal)

(add more anchovies and nduja than the recipe says)

Thanks, there’s a place that has a couple of branches near to be that cooks a very similar dish that had a copyright/naming dispute with either Sugo or Sud. Will have a look at that thanks.

On reading the recipe it’s based on the restaurant I’ve been to in Altrincham.

It was sugo it is now lets rigatoni! Thanks again that’s getting done very soon.

ah do you live in glasgow? Yea stupidly the one near me didn't copyright/trademark whatever the name and then the one in glasgow opened and sued them for the name which was a properly sharky thing to do, but the original one just had to back down and change name. They've subsequently changed again and sort of cheapened their offering in response to cost of living / inflation etc. which is a shame too.

No I’m in Manchester and ate in one that used to be called Sud. It’s now www.letsrigatoni.co.uk and they expanded to one too many sites and have now scaled back to two.

That looks superb, never heard of it before but will be making it soon and my missus should love the combo of pork and clams.

I'd really recommend it, it's an excellent dish.

I used this Rick Stein BBC recipe.
