Last weekend, cooked for “other people” for the first time in can’t remember how long.

Carpaccio of beef, celeriac remoulade, walnuts. Fillet of sea bass au Pistou

Then a quite pleasant two courses whilst visiting the office for the first time in a while.

On the way back form Leics to Cheshire with the GF last night, we wanted to find somewhere to stop for dinner and had a quick google. Best suggestion we could find was a canal-side pub just off the A50 near Derby, called the Ragley Boat Stop.
Turned out to be a delightful rural pub, part of a larger chain, with a fantastic menu and wonderful terraced eating patio alongside the canal.
I had the King Henry VIII special 24ozrump steak, and the GF had a butterflied breaded chicken topped in melted parmesan and cheddar.

10/10 would get stuffed with meat here again!

Not sure if they still do them, but their homemade nachos are divine.

I haven't managed to get back there yet but would go in a heartbeat.

The knife/fork placement? She hadn't yet picked them up from where the waiter had dropped them

Didn't see them on the menu but if I go back I'll have to keep an eye out!

Had a couple of nights in the local hospital beginning of the week …. This was my dinner choice one evening:

Steak and Kidney pie - mash (really nice), and beans as I hate mixed vegetables ….smile. Was really really tasty, far better than it looked. Out of shot an Apricot crumble with custard to finish.

Eating way too much fried food lately but what the hell. Panko pork escalope with a dippy egg yolk for the chips.

An NHS hospital that actually cooks its own food? You are lucky!

(not the being in hospital bit)

Cheers - yep home now - nothing too serious - a chest/lung infection causing my heart to go a bit too fast …

I’m taking it as a shot across the bows - making some lifestyle choices going forward.

I don't cook that often, but was feeling nostalgic recently, so I made a 70s/80s classic. Monkfish "scampi", chips and lemon mayonnaise. Just missing the basket.

Peanut butter chicken curry.
Topped with coriander, sliced red chilli, spring onion and chopped roasted peanuts.

One for my 'Will make again' list.

Thanks, we certainly enjoyed it!

I used this recipe only I used chicken breasts, chopped, and served with rice as well as there was nowhere near enough to serve four people without it, and I was only cooking for three.

Love it!

Scampi has been a favourite of mine since I was a child, and I remember the baskets, ha!

I might have to give this a go myself.
