Crikey. That's the last wine I'd have picked with a lovely delicate side of salmon.
Did you guest know what you were cooking?
Peak Pistonheads.Did you guest know what you were cooking?
And, if pushed, you might go as far as "red wine"?
Sadly these days on PH, there is too much attempt to belittle others and it's not a pleasant read.
Surely you jumped in to help there, didn't you?
Oh, you didn't? Was that because you wouldn't look cool and edgy?
Oh you didn't? Was that so you could post replies such as you have here so that you could try and use sarcasm to be condescending?
There's a way of providing constructive criticism about someone's food photo without being rude or coming across as an 4rse. You should give it a try, you'll present yourself in a better light and help prevent another PH thread from being spoiled.

He pollutes every thread with this nonsense, best ignored.
Looks like you're right, chap. A most odd individual. One for the ignore script.CharlesdeGaulle said:

...Some hard and fast starting points exist for a good reason (e.g. so that you don't do things like ruin a well-cooked piece of salmon), and it can be as simple as:
- Fish and Seafood: White
- Chicken, Turkey etc.: White (unless in a very heavy stew)
- Beef or Lamb: Red
...
There's been lots of chat about matching wine with food, some of it useful, but I'm going to come back to the point raised above, about 'hard and fast starting points' (aka 'rules') stating that one only drinks white with fish. It's bks. - Fish and Seafood: White
- Chicken, Turkey etc.: White (unless in a very heavy stew)
- Beef or Lamb: Red
...
It's a fair point that a 15 degree full-bodied Italian red may not be a natural 'pairing' with salmon and in this case it wasn't, but as I said yesterday it was the juvenile humour of the name that prompted the post anyway.
There are many here that know much more than me about cooking, food and wine, but I've been in the rather odd position where I've been a taste judge on some fairly serious cooking competitions, and if there's one thing I've learned it's that foodies never stop experimenting. Some of those trials work and some don't, but whenever I'm faced with a diner that says 'oh it's fish so we have to have white' I know that I've met someone that doesn't really understand food.
That's why I called them "starting points", not "rules".
HTH.

bit of a divided society this thread now isn't it. The turkey twizzlers and smiley potato faces brigade are just trolls trying to piss people off (which is working), but winegate appears to be a genuine class war.
What’s for dinner sunshine?Personally lunch is in the day and dinner is at night.

What’s for dinner sunshine?Funnily enough I was just chatting with my chef about wine hang ups the other day, and also how people are so set in their preconceptions it extends to cooking with the "wrong" wines.
Sadly the OH binned the white rioja bottle from last night's lasagne so no his n hers shot.
So much variety in wines out there* that unless you try an individual bottle one cannot be certain what it'll be like.
*Not in my local one stop...
