I can't ever imagine being in the supermarket and browsing the tinned meat isle and ever looking at a tin of burgers and thinking yep, they look alright, i can see a meal there, i'll buy them

Whatever floats your boat but they look foul
I think we've hit a new low for this thread. Tinned meat and tinned veg is the sort of thing my grandparents used to eat when postwar food shortages kicked in. In fact, I think I ate better as a poor student.

Surely it takes so little effort to cook some 'fresh' burgers and frozen veg if that's what you really wanted?

I dont think it matters. food is food. if you haven't got issue with eating spam or tinned corned beef then you shouldn't have issue with this.

This reminds me of that trucker who used to post pictures of his pasta + mixed veg + dolmio and ended up pretty much getting bullied off this thread.

Nobody is going to eat a steak or roast every day. sometimes you might just eat something cheap or easy, or whatever is available. I keep lots of things like this as a backup for when there's nothing else or i want minimal fuss/time. I'm more curious about these mundane foods than I am of people posting the same roasts, steaks, burgers, etc..

it matters as much as the prevailing wind of the thread determines. Clearly no one is going to eat beef wellington every day, but there is a clear difference between people going ok i will post only the interesting bits that punctuate my diet, if i reckon others might be interested, maybe post the recipe or the method, or even just to look at pictures of how some people prepare food as some of us a pretty good at it... we can all benefit...... it isn't just a elite wkathon OR your trucker example and his mates currently posting punched frozen food and deliberately terrible stuff in this thread, clearly taking the piss or doing it to annoy people, and then getting defensive when people say it's st. Fookin says pitchers of me dinner and vis is a pitcher of me fookin dinner. Most of them probably call it tea though.
I think the 'food is food' line is pretty crass on a thread like this, but I do agree that all options have a place here. I like the fancy and the aspirational stuff, but I also like the novel and 'interesting'. Whilst I think the posters trying to be 'edgy' come across as knobs, some of the options and techniques are pretty inspiring.

The appeal of the thread is that it's a broad church, but to be thin-skinned and precious about what you post - especially if it's st-to-ordinary - is to miss the point, and some gentle piss-taking helps keep the thread fun.

Chill cool.

To get some food back on the thread - a tikka dinner from a few weeks ago.

Tikka chicken, lamb chops, paneer, prawns, and seekh kebabs. Served with pilau rice and naans.

Only difference between this meat feast and a previous is that I made my own naans - absolutely fantastic they were and will definitely be making them again in future. Cooked on the barbecue obviously smile.

The fake grass runner and Easter bunnies were a hangover from the Easter table setting. Bunnies now gone but runner still present...

i'm with you, but it seems the trolling has been heavy recently, and it has edged into the territory of doing it to piss people off rather than be funny. After all one joke, no matter how funny, will always have a shelf life.

How on earth anyone can get pissed off with Richie's posting is utterly beyond me - He may be having fun, he is not off-topic, & should be taken light-heartedly in the same manner that he is posting.

Some people are too serious for their own good! smile

that all depends as to whether it was intended as joke and whether you think it's funny.

That does look really good. I'm a big fan of paneer, although I buy it more often than I make it.

Richie's alright by me, as is some of the amazing stuff posted, or a whatever. I'm sure the majority think that too.

It's one of the fun corners of the internet, like many of the threads you can pick and choose to follow (which is what I really like about PH) where you can just - well, look at beautifully banal crap.

Now let's all get along before I post a chicken in a can gif - OKAY??!

I also have a box ,6 for 99p ,Tin of marrow fat peas stir in some bistro when peas are cooking, only prob is the brains take 50-60 mins

In the interest of nostalgia

Brains faggots
Bachelors mushy peas
Jersey royals

Tony was right hehe grim, even with lots of Dijon and pepper added

They really are horrific aren't they. I'm going to have to make some myself at some point just so prove to myself I didn't enjoy crap as a kid.

I don't think I'm going to do any research at all into how one might make faggots; there are some things a man doesn't want to know.

My local butcher makes the most amazing faggots. I'm now salivating over some with mash, peas and red cabbage.

Yeah my local butcher makes them and thats pretty much it with breadcrumbs and herbs. If you want to try a variation the South Africans make something called a Skilpadjie (pronounced Skill-pikie) that is basically minced lambs liver and kidney fat mixed with milk soaked breadcrumbs, nutmeg, cloves, thyme, vinegar, onion, worcester sauce, salt and pepper rolled into balls then surrounded in caul and cooked on the braai

The Wiki entry describes them:

'Faggots are meatballs made from minced off-cuts and offal, especially pork (traditionally pig's heart, liver, and fatty belly meat or bacon) together with herbs for flavouring and sometimes added bread crumbs.'

I remember we had them at school and they turned my stomach, don't think I will be going anywhere near them now either...

I was reading an article recently about some kind of horrific French sausage, anyone know what that was likely to be?
