I'm with Monkey on this - there are certain things in life that you don't scrimp on, - weirdly condiments being one of them - Heinz ketchup (kept in the fridge of course) HP Brown Sauce, Colmans English mustard all prime examples.
Agreed, in fact HP ought to be in a glass bottle. That being said, Heinz reduced sugar ketchup is one I like, and Pret chipolte ketchup had just the right heat for cheese on toast etc. Ketchup has been around since the C18th (or poss 17th) was originally called catsup and was mushroom based, for use in enriching stews etc. As you were.

What is a 'boutique ketchup'?
Boutique probably the wrong word, premium would be a better one, but I'd be surprised if you failed to understand what I meant. Something from a small brand, something you might find in a deli. Heinz tastes cheap and nasty to me these days (albeit it has it's place). There are plenty of nice ketchups available these days, unlike in the past where literally a Scottish supermarket might have Heinz or some terrible own-brand stuff.Sticks. said:

i have yet to be disappointed by any supermarket or budget Ketchups - M & S was quite nice.
Why spend £2.50 when you can spend a third or a quarter of the price for something that is not notably inferior?
Absolutely - all of our tastes are different and my palate seems to prefer something a bit less sweet and vinegary than Heinz as I get olderWhy spend £2.50 when you can spend a third or a quarter of the price for something that is not notably inferior?
M&S do indeed do a nice one. I'd consider that "small brand"

I do see where you are coming from however (Heinz has a Market Cap of $45.56 Billion) and appreciate you are talking about production volume/quantity and not company size.
