Nice shot of the beef which looks great but that mash is just taking the piss. Hopefully they did not charge you for that rip off. It looks like a IUD.

If anyone recommends you can cook pizza with yoghurt and self raising flour ... laugh in their face.

My attempt tonight using this.

Looks fairly ok ish .. but that's because you can't taste it. I used the cheapest ingredients I could find on this experiment and I was still over spending smile

Only fit for the magpies.

Oh well, back to using good old fashioned yeast and slow ferment then smile

There was a pub local to me when I live in the UK, and they did "Hungryman" meals. They were only £10 (back to 1998, mind!), and they were bloody huge. Their mixed grill was like the one you had. Their Fish & Chips was 3 large Haddock fillets, a massive pile of chunky chips, and probably a 1lb. of peas!

If you think about constructing that at home yourself then, yes, £16 does seem cheap. Food served up at a restaurant incurs more cost than the raw ingredients. Probably isn't haute cuisine, but I'd deffo have a go on that!

Aye, even assuming they’re buying in cheap produce getting all that to the table for £16 cannae leave them much margin.

You'd be surprised how cheaply you can source meat if you don't give a monkeys about it's origins and the welfare of the animals that it comes from. You can buy it frozen imported from Asia and Europe.

I have no iea abour Flaming Grill's policies on their suppliers btw, so I'm not talking about them specifically.

Flaming Grill is Greene King's own food offering btw, and with that in mind, I'm sure they'd be happy to make a small margin on their food, and a big one on the few pints they'll likely sell you while you're eating it.

Researching into the economics of meat farming and supply is one of the things that pushed me towards not eating meat smile.

My missus worked in the kitchen of a Greene King pub before moving on to better things as well. I’ve seen how happy they are to reduce the quality of their ingredients for the sake of a couple of extra pennies.
