Had another crack at firecracker beef and a spicy Korean cucumber salad. Definitely going to be a regular over the summer.

I've never quite understood why white asparagus is such a delicacy in germany. It makes me feel a bit queasy!

Yeah, it’s often available on the starters menu here in Andalucia, at a daft price. Doesn’t do anything for me.

Thick green asparagus, roast with a bit of lemon zest and garlic… lovely.

Carrying on from the Pie and Asparagus theme. Our local garden centre has a fantastic butchers and top veggie area. I whent there primarily to see if they had any Jersey Royals in and they did and were lush (unlike the crap we've had for several years from Waitrose and the like) straight out the box so can be 'hand picked'....................

The pie was meh! I prefer crumbly short crust. Sparoguts were decent. Definitely going back for more spuds even at 8 quid a Kilo yikes

Pudding was not as good as my version but passible.......

Had it at a business lunch in Holland. We were told beforehand they were proud of their white asparagus
and should bear this in mind when commenting on it. Think that was because they expected a negative reaction to it. I left more than half of it because I was full wink It was awful, watery, tasteless mush! Think it had been boiled, for hours hehe Served with melted butter, no hollandaise to save it!
Our green version at least has taste and texture in it's favour, even though it's not a particular favourite of mine.

The only difference between white and green is that white asparagus is grown without sunlight to subdue Chlorophyll via photosynthesis. Like producing forced rhubarb in caves or in chimney pots with lids on.

i've worked for 2 dutch companies and i can say that I don't believe the dutch would be justified in feeling proud of any of their cuisine.

Sorry, yes, smoked duck and orange salad. It's a starter x1.5. It didn't have too much smoked flavour, and everything is made on site.

Here's a look at the menu. We usually have the lamb chops.

Lamb chops you say?

Indeed but that's the going rate I'm afraid - or you buy the crap from supermarkets I've had for years. In fact I gave up for years and grew my own Charlottes which are superb picked early.

Apparently the 'big boys' on Jersey were forced to stop using seaweed as fertilser by the EU then that made a big difference on the taste?

10 quid with free postage direct from Jersey here..............

Nothing at all... price just seemed more in line with 4 glasses each.
I got it. Sadly not.
Mains are €30+, wine at €8.50/glass
Desserts were 12+ ea. for 2
Soon adds up
No Spoons here, nor twofer or early bird deals…..

Downside of a strong minimum wage - be careful what you wish for wink

Sticks.

Very nice indeed, they look very good chops. I mean to try some Romney Marsh lamb at some point.

Yeah, I was being a bit facetious… Northern Europe meal out pricing (particularly the price of wine) had become ridiculous.

Wife is Dutch and won’t touch green asparagus, preferring the white. I think the white is horrible. It’s fun in our house!
