Mist be central or close as dammit to the centre or if slightly outside easy reachable by train from the centre and has good food etc

Any recommendations?

I like Cherry Reds. So that's an example..

Download Untappd on your phone punch in Birmingham and then view the menus and prices before you go.

Brewdog next to the station appears to have a cherry chocolate porter on.

There’s head of steam, serve and pint shop all in the centre.

Generally if it’s got a menu on untappd I find the venues going to be worth a visit.

Try Pure bar, the Post Office Vaults or the Wellington, all only a few minute from the station.

Exactly the three I was going to recommend.
Pure Bar almost always have Saddle Black and another Stout or porter, and the Welly has so much beer to choose from the beers are numbered.
