KFC tests out vegan nuggets and wings

Quorn southern fried bites are best Quorn product.
The southern fried ones aren’t vegan sadly frown.

The reports from American vegans were good for that vegan KFC.

If it tasted better with chorizo in that just means you didn't season it enough in the first place wink.

Looks good Cotty, I'm far too lazy for that type of prep laugh. I usually just chunk my veggies up and get them in the oven when I'm roasting them.

Been quite into cutting a head of broccoli into florets and roasting them in olive oil, garlic and a bit of chilli flake recently.

Roasted chestnut mushrooms are amazing as well.

My partner made a mushroom, leek and chestnut pie last year.

It was her first attempt at vegan pastry and it was very short but the filling was amazing. I can see if she wrote the recipe down if you're interested.

I bought a bottle of it only to be told off by my partner because we have Sriracha and homemade vegan mayo at home laugh.

There are some ok vegan cheeses, most of those pre made pizzas are rank though.

Anyone in Glasgow, I'd recommend Baked Pizza al Taglio opposite the tennants brewery. All round excellent Roman style pizza with amazing vegan options.

Yep, went there last Saturday and had my usual, slice of the arrabiata and slice of onion and parsley, both with the vegan cheese.
Ah that's the same combo I had when I went up the Necropolis to watch the fireworks last week. First time I'd had the arrabiata, it was great.

There's a vegan hot dog place opening in Dennistoun this week. It's run by the people who run the In Bloom cafe so hopefully it'll be decent.

I cooked Christmas dinner this year so it was the first completely meat free one we’ve had.

Made a cassoulet type of thing that I’ve made before with roasted celeriac, broccoli & carrots and roasted garlic & herb mashed potatoes.

Everyone seemed to like it. Forgot to take pics though.

The cassoulet is pretty simple

Sweat down celery, onion and carrot. add a couple of cloves of garlic and mushrooms, I just used chestnut mushrooms and cook until the mushrooms have lost most of their water. Stick a glass of white wine in and cook the alcohol off. Put a tin of tomatoes in and some veg stock, I also put in some time, marjoram and a couple of bay leaves.

Simmer until the stock thickens and add a tin of haricot beans. Cook some vegan sausages, chop and add to the sauce. I use Morrison’s own ones as they have a nice herby taste. Once the sausages are in it’s ready.

The celeriac is really easy, just peel and roughly chop it into chunks. Stick in a 200deg c for about 45 mins with garlic, thyme and salt & pepper. It should be slightly browned on the outside and soft in the middle.

The presentation was a bit 70s but I wonder if you swapped the tofurkey for some bland turkey breast would it have got the same arsey responses.

Although knowing this place it probably would’ve laugh.

When I started the thread I wanted to keep it mostly constructive and I think we’ve managed that but you’re always going to get the odd idiot who just wants some attention.

I think expecting a KFC burger to look like something you'd want to eat is probably expecting too much laugh.

Nah that would be ste.

These things are publicity stunts first and foremost. If you end up with something edible as well that’s a plus but from memory KFC have never really been good at edible food.

If you fart a lot after eating veg, chances are it’s not cooked properly.

Long time since I posted in this thread.

Had a bit of an experiment with Morrison’s new vegan chorizo.

I added complimentary spicing to the potatoes, onions and beans under the sausages and padrons as I didn’t expect the sausages to give out flavour in the same way as meat ones do.

The sausages were pretty tasty though. Would recommend.

It was really good altogether.

It was haricot beans, potatoes, baby tomatoes and onions. Couple of cloves of garlic, oregano, paprika and a wee sprinkle of chilli flakes.

Put the sausages and padrons over the top and stuck it in a hot oven for about half an hour.

The beans were the best bit tbh, sat at the bottom soaking up all the juices.

If you were to do a rice dish with them I'd recommend browning the sausages and adding them at the end. They don't cook like meat chorizo and they might go mushy if you cook them in stock

As I said, it doesn’t give flavour to a meal like meat chorizo does. Probably cause it doesn’t have the fat.

It’s worth adding the seasonings to what your cooking separately to help it along.

I’d imagine it would be good chopped up on a pizza though. Going to have to try that.

The industry's really nailed veggie sausage rolls - the Gregg's one's good too.
Morrison's has just started selling frozen pies from a company called Naughty Vegan. I've had the sausage rolls and the cheese and onion pasties. They're both pretty good, best pastry I've had on a vegan pie.

I’ve got really into making my own baked beans recently so decided to up the game and get some Greggs inspiration.

Vegan sausage, bean and cheese pasta bake. Looks like a crime scene but it was delicious laugh

Also excuse the mess on the cooker, I had a ground coffee mishap.

There are some nice ones but they’re usually quite pricey. It’s violife I used on that and it works ok in toasties but I do miss decent cheese.

The Vegan Applewood smoked cheese is decent. Still not a patch on actual cheese though.
