I'm a big meat eater but I have high cholestoral so have been looking at replacements with low saturated fat.
Tried Iceland vegan sausages,absolutely revolting,what they were thinking I don't know,1 out of 10.
Next I tried Linda McCartney's,much better, actually look like real bangers a bit.....quite dry but I imagine it's hard to replicate the fat juices without fat.Didn't taste bad either so 6 out of 10.
Found a nicer sausage than LM's,Veggie Kitchen at Farmfoods.Look like a sausage and taste like a sausage.... although still a bit dry so I'll try them fried in a little olive oil next time
I can't remember the brand but I found a really nice Lincolnshire like sausage bought in ASDA but not ASDA brand..

Korean Sweet & Crunchy Tofu

Pretty straightforward from the YouTube vid and would have again - definitely with less gochujang (too spicy), and possibly a little less ketchup (too ketchup-y). Potato starch (from Amazon) really got the tofu crunchy.

Interesting, I've never tried potato starch but normally use corn starch. I'll give it a go.

Same here - I'd never even heard of potato starch before this week :-). This is definitely more crunchy.

Long time since I posted in this thread.

Had a bit of an experiment with Morrison’s new vegan chorizo.

I added complimentary spicing to the potatoes, onions and beans under the sausages and padrons as I didn’t expect the sausages to give out flavour in the same way as meat ones do.

The sausages were pretty tasty though. Would recommend.

That looks good. I am looking for something to do with our "chorizo style" sausages, I was thinking some kind of risotto maybe or a paella type dish.

It was really good altogether.

It was haricot beans, potatoes, baby tomatoes and onions. Couple of cloves of garlic, oregano, paprika and a wee sprinkle of chilli flakes.

Put the sausages and padrons over the top and stuck it in a hot oven for about half an hour.

The beans were the best bit tbh, sat at the bottom soaking up all the juices.

If you were to do a rice dish with them I'd recommend browning the sausages and adding them at the end. They don't cook like meat chorizo and they might go mushy if you cook them in stock

Looks good, does the vegan chorizo give a similar smoky spicy flavour to meat versions?

Wondering if it would be a nice addition to a veggie paella, or sliced up on a pizza as a pepperoni style substitute?

Made this for dinner. Mushroom and “Chorizo style Sausage” risotto. I used the ASDA own version they weren’t bad. Could have done with more heat but they do add a smokey flavour. Really tasty all the same.

As I said, it doesn’t give flavour to a meal like meat chorizo does. Probably cause it doesn’t have the fat.

It’s worth adding the seasonings to what your cooking separately to help it along.

I’d imagine it would be good chopped up on a pizza though. Going to have to try that.

Found this thread as I am edging towards vegetarianism. Currently I've cut out pork, but am really missing bacon so was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for a replacement?

There seem to be quite a few alternatives available, but I was hoping someone could recommend based on personal experience.

Funny you should ask... For me, "This Isn't Bacon" (Tesco, Waitrose) is the best of the many I've tried. It doesn't repeat like many others, just be careful not to over-fry as it gets a bit hard.

Sunday brunch BLT with home made bagels - surprisingly easy and v authentic :-)

Saw this the other day and almost bought it. Might go back and grab some for a breakfast muffin at the weekend.

Quorn do a pepperoni that’s good thrown on a pizza.

Another vote for This Isn't Bacon - I've been using it in quite a few recipes and it works nicely. Goes well with sprouts and chestnuts and in pit beans, to name a couple.

Homemade English muffins, isn’t bacon, egg and plastic cheese. Delicious! yum
