Having been to a number of tea plantations, I was amazed at the various qualities.
Anything leaf goes into specialist packs; the fines, floor sweepings etc are sold to PG etc to go into teabags.
Did a few tastings and found massive differences so currently have both varieties. Leaf for when I have time; bags when I'm in a rush. The best of a bad bunch, for me, is Yorkshire Gold.

I have taken to buying Waitrose loose leaf and blending my own. Usually from Assam, Kenyan, Darjeeling. They are the best supermarket loose leaf, the ones like Tesco are just the same sweepings that are in their regular teabags. Decent value too.
You can get some nice teas from Germany, the east fresians drink more than the average British person does

You should put the milk in first! Adding milk to hot tea means it heats unevenly and denatures the proteins or something like that, adding hot tea to the milk means the milk heats more evenly.Of course if you're making tea with a teabag in a mug you're already doing it wrong, if you put a tea bag and milk in the mug before adding hot water you should be taken outside at shot!

That's what we are referring to as almost no one uses loose tea in a pot these days. theplayingmantis said:

Yorkshire is the king of regular tea, their Gold stuff is even better if you have money to throw around.
I've been meaning to post a question on this for a few weeks now.I come over to the UK a few times per year and I bulk buy Yorkshire tea, Colmans mustard, Branston pickle and a few other bits and pieces, for myself and a few friends.
The last load of Yorkshire tea tastes like st. I now need to use 5 tea bags in a big pot (only needed 3 in the past). Not just me, two friends have made the same comment.
Anyone else noticed a difference?
Any suggestions for a replacement for next time? It's quite galling as I've still got quite a few boxes to use up.

You have the wrong end of the stick. We are not talking about brewing in a tea pot we are referring to people who pour milk onto a tea bag in a mug, then pour in hot water. I don’t believe anyone using a pot would ever pour milk onto the tea leaves before pouring the hot water in. Cotty said:

People who are doing it wrong complaining about people who are doing it even more wrong I accept tea bags are more convenient but you can get a much better selection of teas if you buy loose leaf.
