Went to a new micro- brewery last night. Saw something was happening under an arch in Windsor before Christmas but forgot to follow it up.

Two Flints Brewery opened up end of last year - tap room currently opened between fri-sunday , more opening hours as spring/summer arrives.

Enjoyed a few of their beers and they stock others too, worth checking out if you are in the Maidenhead/Windsor/Slough area.

Only had one of their beers - sadly this article says a total of 82 independent breweries has closed in the last year

Industry is definitely very shaky at the moment. I own a craft beer shop and small tap room and there’s definitely a lot of nervous suppliers at the moment on the edge of going under.

Out of interest do you think that there's a certain price point which people refuse to go over for a tin/bottle of beer ?

It’s a hard one to answer, it very much varies person to person.

You’ll get customers who don’t flinch at any price as they’re so deep in to this and they have to have the next ‘hype’ beer. For them this is basically Pokémon for adults, they’ve got to have them all.

Then you’ll get customers that want something nicer than the supermarket stuff but don’t want to spend a lot who’ll stick to the cheaper end of our stock and maybe buy a more expensive treat now and again.

We try to cater for everyone, but the bulk of sales are probably in the price range of £4-7. (We have beers from £2 to £20 though those ones are 750ml’s)

Verdant Puttty TIPA came in last week, and for me it was ridiculously expensive at just over £10 a can, yet it flew out the door. I have other 10% IPA’s that are significantly cheaper and my opinion better but it’s just how it goes.

The biggest kicker with pricing is that on the standard £5-6 can of beer people think you’re making loads, but the reality is the margins are pretty poor. I started this business after 30 years in another career as I just wanted to do something I enjoy, which I very much do, but I’m certainly not making a fortune out of it. No regrets though, the last four years have been great fun.

Maybe you could give us a heads up on any new beers that come in ? I know it's a personal thing too but any you think are worthy of trying at a reasonable price ?

Sure thing. Not a lot of new arrivals for us this week as we’re closed for my shops beer festival this weekend, but I can post about some stuff after it. We have 1000 people coming this weekend and we were really excited to can and keg our collaboration beer with Glasgow’s Overtone Brewing yesterday that’ll be pouring at the event. It’s going to be a fantastic weekend, with a bunch of brilliant breweries.

I'm afraid not. I'm not in Dunfermline that often.

I hope it goes well.

This has Mango and Passion Fruit Puree in it but I don't hate it. Half price in Sainsbury's at £1.50.

Seem to be doing some deals at the minute - maybe just making way for new stock ?

That sounds like a great beer as a lover of sours beers myself. I've never heard of that brewery before, will have to keep an eye out for them. I'm a fan of Vault City, who are also based in Scotland. Actually I think that they were originally based in Dundee, but moved to Edinburgh, not sure of the reason though.

It was the co-founder of Vault City that left to set up Holy Goat. This blog explains the moving of VC and reasons for leaving.

Was the young blokes’s 9th birthday today, so I had a beer to celebrate…

Cooper’s release these every year, specifically for aging - must’ve got a few when PB Jnr3 was born. Tasted great - malty and smooth with just a little hops and none of the flat, dull taste that can sometimes go with older beers.

I sell a lot of West Coast IPA's very year, this is absolutely one of the best I've had in a long time. Yes it's a big beer, but it's a treat of bitterness and pine. If you see it out in the wild and it's a style you love, grab yourself a can and enjoy.
