Of course having the title 'head brewer' implies there is at least one other person below you in the hierarchy....

Perhaps not being able to drink the product makes you think more carefully about a recipe rather than chucking loads of ingredients in the pot and seeing how it turns out.

Also, I assume professional tastings of beer are done like wine tastings and you spit it out and rinse your mouth rather than supping pints all day long.

Finally. A large part of the job should be supervising the production, testing, quality control and other dull tasks.
These aren’t Heineken or fosters most of these craft breweries are a couple of people doing everything from brewing to sales to running the bar so you generally can’t rely on others.

Also once you have a good recipe doesn’t mean you can repeat it, each batch of grain, hops and yeast will react differently there’s constant adjustments to each batch which requires taste and experience to get it tasting and looking like the last batch. There’s a reason the big breweries have labs attached to them testing everything that comes in. But small scale you just have to rely on experience or luck.

I've never seen anything from Alphabet Brewing before, but I looked up their website and I'm a bit sad they've ceased trading. Some of the artwork and beer names were fantastic. Particular favourites include:

I just like the fact they don't incorrectly call their Köln style beer a Kölsch.

they were there right at the start of the craft beer boom in manchester. I think they were the first into the piccadilly area and the first to have a brewtap there too. They were lauded as a big deal if i recall, before cloudwater came along at least.

Stumbled upon Sainsbury's Coronation bottled ale at the weekend.

A pretty decent ruby coloured beer at 7%. £2.50 for 500mls. Would buy again.

The new Four Pure 'brewed exclusively for Lidl' west coast IPA is pretty decent for a cheap supermarket beer.

(I realise many on here would not consider it 'craft')

I agree. The Welsh YouTube man recommended it.

I picked up a couple of other Lidl exclusives on Friday. Salt Casual Pale and Magic Rock Big on Haze. I would rate them as pretty decent too and good value at £1.79 each for 440ml cans.

My monthly tour of nearby supermarkets to find any new beers was not looking very productive until I went to Sainsbury's.
Picked up this lot -

Tesco had no new ones (to me anyway), neither did Morrisons, picked up a couple of cheapies in Lidl, two in M&S - can't remember if I went anywhere else.
Looks like you’re in Marlow, pop in to Rebellion and I’ll fix you up with some of our Development brews!

Having spent quite a bit of time drinking down at the Fourpure Brewery I think they'd be a little disappointed that people think that just because the branding changes.

Couple mentions on a few things I saw above as I was thumbing through. I'm also one who doesn't get the Cloudwater hype, never been particularly blown away.

Saw a couple Deya posts. Lovely brewery.

As for the price point, I'm fairly easy but even though I've heard margins are fine but when I see people baulk at £6 a pint of some meh lager, £8 for a 330ml can does make you wince a little even if it is comparing apples to oranges a little.

They’ve been doing it long enough to know it would divide opinion of them so I doubt there’s any disappointment. (Personally I still think it’s craft).

Lower ABV (5.2%) hazy IPA from the Salt Horse in Edinburgh. Should have taken note of what it was because it was bloody excellent.
