i just go to waitrose and tesco and choose a new beer to try. Try a few, there is so much choice. The subscription model to me sounds great but it is quantity over quality.
I think the issue with big supermarkets is that most of the low-volume, indie breweries don't tend to get anywhere near their shelves. Even some of the bigger indies breweries don't get their products there. Some of the stuff in the bigger supermarkets can be good, but it's very formulaic.

In my experience, these are the breweries who are consistently producing the highest-quality and most innovative products. And you tend to find them at the indie taprooms and bottleshops.

Siren are bloomin' excellent.

Availability of their Soundwave on tap is getting much better in London. Even my local has it!
Sirens tap room is 5 miles from where I live....handy
Only handy if there's a way to get between which doesn't involve driving! laugh

I’m a big fan of beers like Leffe Blonde and Delirium Tremens. Can anyone recommend a few others to try of a similar ilk?
You’re into Belgian triple territory there, some examples would be Piraat,Tripel Karmeliet,La Chouffe,Westmalle Tripel.
All outstanding beers.
+ Goulden Draak, Chimey, Kasteel, Pauwel Kwak, Henri Willig, Pronck Tripel, Gouden Carolus, St-Fuellien Grand Cru, Rochefort, La Trappe, Grimbergen, Zundert....just to name a few from the top of my Untapped ratings biggrin

Most of the Belgian/Dutch breweries will do a Blond, Double, Tripel, often an Amber and sometimes a fruit one as well.

I live in a village in the middle of nowhere so it it around 35 miles to get to anywhere half decent. I also find indies that I like them they sell out of it so can't buy more and it is a compromise to buy from supermarkets. I support locals beers as well where i can, but i think craft ethos is about stepping away from mass brands.(most end up as mass craft though now as pipularity i gaining)

Yeah, I guess that's fair. In that case, you just have to take what you can get.

I stumbled into liking craft beers by accident. I prefer an IPA, double IPA or DDH IPA and my favourite is Jakehead from Wylam brewery but it seems it's harder to find the further away from the brewery you get. A close second that's available in Tesco is Vocations life or death.

I did briefly try the untapped app but have decided that trying things in pubs or from shops that I've not heard of is far more fun and it stops me going back to one or two beers all the time.

Love and Hate by Vocation is one I often pick up from Tesco.

Tesco have a lot of decent beers. They are the best of the supermarkets for craft beer. There must be about 10 pick up if shopping in Tesco.

If you're into double IPA then Mr President from Brewdog in Tesco is hard to beat. Very cheap if you get the English multibuy deals.

It is. I've been on it since 2013 lol.

My highest rated beer that was a solid 5 all day was Cantillon Fou Fonne or Goose island bourbon county in particular the regal rye of that name sake.

My highest of all-time was a Cloudwater-OtherHalf collab that I can't recall the name of right now.

I'd been to the OH taproom in Brooklyn a couple of weeks earlier, and they had been advertising it so I couldn't resist.

It was £14 for a 440ml can, and worth every penny. I gave it 4.75/5, because I'm not sure that the perfect beer exists. If it does, I haven't found it yet.

That's why I started using it, place I was in tonight had 3 beers on, a quick check of untapped told me I'd tried one of them before and thought it was ok, so I went for the other two instead.

That's exactly the reason why I use it.

I walk into my local bottleshop, and they have 100 bottles, most of which weren't there last time, and many of whom are from breweries I've never heard of.

I want a DIPA that's cloudy, sweet, piney and hoppy, and rates >4 out of 5. I'll grab a couple and scan the barcodes, to see how they've been rated (and what the 'taste notes' were) to help make my decision.

Even in this kind of bottleshop, it's very rare I'll find something that doesn't exist or doesn't have ratings on Untappd.

Thanks for the tips on the Belgian beers! Hic!

Heads up to any Halifax banking customers - they have a £20 Beer52 cash back offer, so it actually costs you just £9 for 10 beers if you haven’t signed up before. You can then cancel it after you’ve had the delivery if you don’t want to carry it on.

Beerhawk has a pretty good selection. Untappd is great for checking out new stuff.
XT Brewery is close to me and they have a great core range.

Is there a Pistonheads untappd thread / group. Cant see one but if anyone is interested might be worth starting one.
