That's exactly the reason why I use it.
I walk into my local bottleshop, and they have 100 bottles, most of which weren't there last time, and many of whom are from breweries I've never heard of.
I want a DIPA that's cloudy, sweet, piney and hoppy, and rates >4 out of 5. I'll grab a couple and scan the barcodes, to see how they've been rated (and what the 'taste notes' were) to help make my decision.
Even in this kind of bottleshop, it's very rare I'll find something that doesn't exist or doesn't have ratings on Untappd.
I don't think I could get to grips with the app. I think I enjoy the random discovery of beers, for some reason I've never enjoyed the ones recommended to me in bars or shops as much as I have the ones I chose myself. Too many people just use Untappd as a willy waving competition. If half the people drank a fraction of the beers they claimed have they would be dead. People averaging around 10 unique beers per day and people scoring 100 beers at a one day beer festival it just nonsense. A beer barely touching their lips isn't a valid judgement.

Big fan of Verdant (Cornwall) for their double IPAs, and also Vocation (Hebden Bridge) for pale ales. Closer to home for me, the well-established Siren Craft and up-and-coming Tap Social.
Siren are bloomin' excellent.Availability of their Soundwave on tap is getting much better in London. Even my local has it!
I too am an Untappd wker, it’s a great app, apart from all those proxy badges it awards you.

Only handy if there's a way to get between which doesn't involve driving!
Über ftw.I sense a PH-ers do Siren tour coming on!
There’s also Double-Barrelled in Reading, I’ve been to a couple of their tap room functions but they’ve become a bit of a victim of their own success, far too many people there, takes forever to get served. Best advice is to just go on a regular Saturday, far less busy then.
My local The Fox & Hounds in Caversham is a great craft beer pub, constantly rotating lines of very interesting beers.

Enjoying a can of this now. I'm crap at taste descriptions! Definitely not as full on in terms of the grapefruityish flavour of Cloudwater IPA. Lower in alcohol though so can enjoy more before falling over
I'm going to visit the Salt brewery in Saltaire soon as it looks like a pretty good venue

I once saw a full on fist fight in the Nags between a man and a woman, the woman was winning! That was in its pre-gentrified days mind.

I have a lot of beers on mine, although less than 1000. A good friend is a beer freak, and has 4000 ratings - I'd be confident that his smallest measure would have been a beer festival 1/3rd pint.

I'm a "must have sampled at least a half" merchant before it goes on Untappd.
One of the things I like about having Untappd linked to my Twitter is that check-ins automatically tweet the brewery, and those that are engaged on social media often respond, so I then follow them, get more info about tap takeovers and the like.
I do sometimes feel a bit 'Real Ale tt', however .... "Ahoy casketeers!!"

Invested some hard-earned in an Evil Twin Molotov Cocktail last night. And very nice too, but only the one as it's 12ish % and was £6 a third.
Belgian beer tasting tonight. Hosted by a specialist bottle shop, so hopefully something interesting rather than run-of-the-mill beers.
Siren Craft are launching this year's Caribbean Chocolate Cake and its 3 other derivatives across the country on the 28th, and happily there's a venue in Oxford as part of the launch. https://www.sirencraftbrew.com/stories-and-events/...
Right, this might not be the place to ask this but after spending my formative years drinking the run of the mill Fosters/XXX/Carling etc. I eventually moved away from it and onto the so called more 'premium' brands such as Stella and Peroni etc but now I can't really drink any lagers. I don't mind the odd light ale but I struggle to get a drink I consistently enjoy.
Last year whilst on holiday I stumbled across Poretti lager on draft.
https://carlsberguk.co.uk/products/birrificio-ange...
This I found a really nice drink, slightly fruity and very refreshing. I appreciate this itself is far from a craft beer but does anybody have any reccomendations on a craft lager I could try along the same lines as I cannot find the Poretti anywhere. Maybe I should just go to the bottle shop but wanted to maybe narrow down my options before hand and see if any regular drinkers might point me in the direction of what I might want to ask for.
Thanks all.

Had La Trappe last night, first Dutch Trappist I’ve had. Taste wise was very similar to Leffe blonde but was surprised at how uncarbonated it was.
The other Dutch Trappist being Zundert which is also very good (well the 8 is, I've not found the 10 yet). If you like trappist try some of the Dutch Bok/Bock's as well.I'm thinking I might have to book to go to 2 sessions at the Dutch Beer Festival next year as one evening was nowhere near enough.
