I wonder if the rise of apps such as just eat/uber/deliveroo etc... has lead to a decline in custom as there's a lot more choice available?

I remember not too long ago when the kebab shops used to have long queues outside after chucking out time whereas now they don't seem as busy, perhaps people just order food to be delivered when they get home.

People paying via contactless means that it's harder to cook the books and this must have an impact also.

You lot can stick your Laandan prices!

Festival Fish Bar in Cannock; run by Indians and they have a proper naan bread oven, so their Chicken Tikka Kebab in (real) naan bread is superb and only £6.05. They also do battered chips. Bostin'!
As an incomer, I have to say the concept and execution of bright orange battered chips is a heinous abomination!

^^ is that the one on Pye Green Road? not far from my outlaws if so. We'll check it out,
Yes opposite the old sports stadium.

And (local trivia) just down the road from the Jubbilee pub where Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple and Black Sabbath fame used to drink. One of the lads who works for us used to be another regular there and says they all knew he played guitar, but not that he sang, until he mentioned he had an audition. The next time they saw him was on TV, sort of thing.

Contactless would cause a few headaches as most of these business declare under the vat threshold, however more cash then disappears.

Just eat is a larger problem for these businesses as they automatically deduct vat (20%) and there commission (say 20%). Then the funds have to be transferred somewhere...

The suppliers still want COD btw...

I’ve seen a few guys on Just Eat who now put everything through the books.

From a different cash industry, my window cleaner, whose round is in a fairly affluent area has started taking contactless, he commented that fewer and fewer people are carrying cash (even £9)

i never carry cash on me anymore except if I'm going to go to collect a takeaway, or get a drink from a corner shop. the takeaways all prefer you give them cash, and some only accept cash.

Must be Posh where you live!
Haha definitely not posh! That’s just Surrey prices for you! All fast food is expensive round here!
Botan Kebab in Bridge Street, Leatherhead is £5.90 for a small doner, that moreover won't kill you.

The number of scabby burger/pizza/kebab take-aways in the town centre keeps prices down.

The kebab shop near me still doesn’t take card... and this is in affluent Herts commuter belt where everywhere is card.

What they did do, is install a free cash machine in the off license they own next door, and direct everyone who tries to use card to use the cash machine.

So blatantly on the take!

Would be interested to know if actually deliveroo has boosted business in some cases. There must be a reason more and more traditional businesses are moving on there. A mate said that his local BP petrol station is on there for food etc now! I have Co-Op round the corner, Costa just joined in the last day or two. Even my local Pret is on there, which is a business that doesn't generally suffer with footfall. so it all must just be bonus.

I've bought stuff from all sorts of places I've never been in person, don't even know where they are, wouldn't ever go in person. I ordered something this morning from some place I'd never even heard of on the basis of their menu on deliveroo (and reviews).

The chinese nearish to us is cash only. The same chinese was raided by immigration a few months ago and it closed for 2 months and all of the staff changed.

My sister lives in Greece. One of life's (well my life anyway) truly great-but-simple pleasures is a giros and chips, washed down with a cold bottle of Mythos.
Good god, yes.

Mine's a FIX Dark, please.

That's livin' alright.

A fiver is the going rate for a basic small donor in East London! Certainly in the near vicinity.

A 33% hike is simply not on! On principle I will be taking my custom elsewhere! I consider it a bit of a liberty to be honest. They are good but not that good to justify their price ramping.

Nearer to me, this place on Queensway charge £3.50 in a higher expensive area! Plus you can eat as much salad and sauce as you want if you sit in the back area.

This is my point..

I had a large lamb shawarma kebab from taza, it was nice, but the amount of meat was not even the size of what you get for a small shawarma kebab from Stoke Newington Rd (Dalston end).
In Islington the going rate for a small doner kebab is £5 - £6 and a large is £7 - £7.50, around Old Street/Shoreditch expect to pay £0.50p to £1 more.

I agree. Not a great innings in Taza but useful if you want a snack.

Seems to me like the price rise isn't just kebab, but now fried chicken.

one of my locals is selling a 2piece fried chicken meal for £4.50!! It didn't seem that long ago a 2 piece meal cost £2 or £2.50.

On topic, have just received our first ever kebab menu through the door.

Never heard of this place, but here are prices for all Northerners to deplore:
