Yes, they both have a fan and a heating element and cook food. However an air fryer cooks food 25-50% quicker and with no preheating. The results in my opinion of certain foods are much better and consistent, generally meats are juicier, battered / crumb coatings crisper.

Comparing an air fryer to a fan oven is like comparing a hose pipe to a jet wash. The air that is passed over the food is concentrated and at a much higher velocity than in a regular fan oven, giving the results described above.

In commercial operations, Turbochef and Merrychef use similar technology, albeit scaled up in their impinged oven systems.

Just air fried a whole chicken for the first time ...
Air fryer is just a mini fan assisted oven isn't it? So are the results any different?

We were having chicken salad , didn't need the oven for anything else and the air fryer was more convenient . Results , really crispy crunchy skin and juicy meat , Quick simple meal

Works quicker, about half the time for small amounts and uses less power. Our son cooks meals at odd times and the oven was costing us a fortune so we tried a £80 Tefal airfryer. He loves it and it's dropped our electric bill a lot.

I get annoyed when my lad puts the oven on just for a tray of oven chips, instead of using the Instant Pot. Wife doesn't take well to using new gadgets so I'm having to train her to use it. Granted there are three or four buttons to press - mode setting button, cooking time, temperature plus the start button, so it may take a while....

The oven costs 20p an hour to run and yet my old man is having a right go at me. Tight ass.

And to think how much dad spends on petrol just driving around

There is a youtuber in Canada who lives in a van and in pretty much every video cooks something in his Ninja Foodi. It looks great

Foresty inspired me to get one too. laugh

It's a Cosori one and should be here on Saturday, hopefully. I'm glad to see there's a thread here about them.

We've just got a Ninja Double.

Any recipe book recommendations? Seems most are from the US with imperial measures/temps in Fahrenheit, which I'd rather avoid.

They're £180 on the official Ninja store, and at Curry's this week btw - £350 is nuts. Also in the same boat, currently going down a rabbit hole of air fryer specs - exciting stuff! hehe

Yeah, I think the Amazon price is because nobody actually has any stock right now.

John Lewis Milton Keynes sold out, and Currys MK as well.

We're getting along famously with our Tower Vortx 10 in 1. Everything, including tonight's chips made from actual raw potato is coming out really well. The only disappointment is that we can't find small enough chickens to fit the rotisserie

Yeah that's the one. No idea what the Mrs paid for it.

There's only three of us and it's going alright as a stand in for our broken oven (we're moving out end of Sept so decided it wasn't worth fixing).

There are usually some on John Pye Auctions ... I got mine from there, new/unused and perfect for basically peanuts. You may be unlucky and end up with one that does not work and still has some 1/2 cooked food in it, but that's always a risk with John Pye ... I usually get 2 of things and if both perfect then sell the other on FB

For example : https://www.johnpyeauctions.co.uk/search-auctions.... - note that all prices you need to add 50% to for fees/vat/delivery so don't bid too high ... and note that JP will shill bid you so only bid in small increments

Could you maybe bone a chicken to reduce its size? This video was linked to in a different thread on here and is a good watch..

Another newbie Cosori user here. Absolutely love it, am in a rental with a crap old electric oven with no fan assistance. Quite apart from the energy savings, the time savings when cooking are brilliant, super efficient. Used for fries, chicken, salmon, frozen spring rolls and chinese dumplings, etc.

One thing that has my boys very happy - normally when I make garlic bread I mash 5 cloves of pressed garlic and a bit of salt into 1/2 a lb of butter, slice a baguette then use the oven for 45 minutes. Slow and faffing around. Now I make the garlic butter in double quantities so that there is always some in the fridge. Take a couple of slices of good bread out of the freezer, spread garlic butter on them, 4 minutes in the air fryer and bosh, delicious garlic bread. Often lunch is now garlic bread and a big salad.

Looking to venture into the air fryer world.

Have been at friends and they've whipped up a decent dinner in record time with the air fryer.

How do you adjust / know cooking times from standard products?

For example there's some frozen chips at the back of the freezer, 200 degrees for 20 mins in a fan oven (from memory) how would I know how long these would need in an air fryer? Same goes for cooled chicken breast etc.
