I’ve had my air fryer for about 3 months now. Today was the first time I’ve done oven chips in it. They were Sainsbury’s “Taste the difference” sea salt and rosemary affairs, 20 mins at 200° and they were the best chips I’ve ever had at home and better than plenty of the ones I’ve had when eating out.

Any plasiticky smell from them?

Also presumably the holes in the bottom of the Ninja baseplates are to help hot air circulate underneath the food, which these will stop?
No smell at all.
I have a metal perforated grid in the bottom of my drawers but I remove them when using the silicone liners. I bought them for baking so I can get the cake out easily, and you wouldn't want holes in the bottom as the cake mixture would seep through.
Good news on smell

We mainly use our Ninja for grilling (chicken thighs, bacon or cooking veg, so I was wondering if the lack of bottom vents in these things is an issue (of course holes would defeat the object of being easier to clean)

I read the instructions of my Instant Pot Duo for the first time because I wanted to understand how the various modes (air fry/bake/roast etc) differ - ie is it fan speed, different elements used? None the wiser, but I did clock that you’re not supposed to use foil as it risks the air fryer overheating.

I’ve used foil loads of times without issue when I either want a layer below the food, or to cover something to stop it browning too quickly, but anyone else had a problem using foil in theirs?

I use foil in mine all the time. Don't leave the foil up the sides of the bowl or basket as the wind from the fan will blow it onto whatever you're cooking. Just enough of a tray to catch the fat is enough. Really fatty stuff like bacon will require the foil fishing out and draining if you want your bacon to be brown, as it obviously doesn't brown when submerged in quarter inch of fat.

I do my chicken joints sat on the foil. 35 mins at 180 upside down, turn over, 20 mins top side, take out, scran all the crispy skin, pour fat from foil into gravy, dish out food, done. lick

I forgot I had left a bit of grease proof paper in mine. It caught fire on preheat!

I think the vent holes in grids must help when cooking, have you tried lining the bottom of the drawer with parchment paper, with the grids on top? The cake tin liners I linked to previously fit and work perfectly in my Instant Duel drawer air fryer, with the grids on top, but cutting parchment paper to size is cheaper.

You’ll be ok with grease proof, unless like me you multitask when cooking. I was on the phone to my CEO thinking “sure I can smell burning “

thanks, might give that a go

grids are a good tight fit in the Ninja so doubt you will get them inside those liners

I can add another 'don't do this' to the list : don't leave fat in the bottom of the pan from a previous session because you were too lazy to sort it out that day. The pan gets extremely hot and the fat starts to burn, which then comes out through the vents on your air-fryer and fills your kitchen with burnt fat smoke and puts a film of fat grease on absolutely everything in the room. Really don't do this.

First time I’ve seen cooking instructions for Air Frying on a pack.

Spicy Chicken strips from Iceland.

Nice to know that this is exactly the times I’ve been using aswell smile

Yawn O’Clock already? I almost predicted that reply on here.

Nothing wrong with a spicy chicken pitta bread for lunch.

As much as I love duck and dauphenoise, it’s a bit heavy for me at 12:30.

I must be council.

You do realise it was a tongue in cheek comment?

Apparently not!

I did fish fingers in mine last night!

No, the fish fingers got smoked in the air fryer with essence of papier sulfurisé. Don’t you follow the thread?
