Best oven chips?

I don't have any real access to UK shops but I picked these up from Tesco and they were way better than any of the normal frozen chip options I've seen. They were expensive though, 3 euros for 1 portion. I just had a look and they're £2 in UK
I tried these @ a year ago and was very impressed. So I bought them again recently and they were awful. Some still hard, a bit greasy, not great. I read the reviews, some of which said ' these used to be great but.....'.A lot of oven chips now seem to be batter-coated, which I don't want. As above, making your own isn't too hard if you don't have too many to cook for.

The worst frozen chips I've tasted came from M&S, some beer battered rubbish, absolutely disgusting, they smelt like a piss stained alleyway when cooking and tasted like nothing, no flavour at all.

"At £1.95 for 1.5kg, these chunky chips were “stunning value” said our panel of experts. “Well seasoned” with “great taste”, there was a “good contrast” between the “crispy” outside and “fluffy” inside. Shoppers loved the “upmarket” look of the packaging and the “excellent size” of the chips - which they said were better than those from some leading brands"
I mentioned these back in the thread. Couldn’t agree more.https://www.thegrocer.co.uk/the-grocer-own-label-a...

Like a lot of branded stuff in the supermarkets, Lidl has changed their supplier but kept the same packaging.
Unfortunately the new supplier’s chips are crap as they have some sort of crispy coating on the outside.
The Aldi version are ok, although not quite as good as the old version Lidl.

You can also spice them up - hot caymans pepper, garlic cloves Tabasco and jalapeños in olive oil mega chunky with skin on. A lot of oven chips now seem to be batter-coated, which I don't want. As above, making your own isn't too hard if you don't have too many to cook for.
It’s not healthy —- so I don’t do it that often a year but when I do 2 le cruset roasting pans full.

Bought the ALDI triple cooked beef dripping chips... gotta say that I'm not really that impressed. They just seemed abit dry were something you really had to have to eat with a condiment otherwise it's not that enjoyable. I also bought the McCains skin on fries (that look similar to the iceland version as the icelad one was sold out at the time) and they didn't seem to taste as good as the iceland one..
For me at least, the iceland skin on fries are top.
I do have some of the aldi skin on fries which I'll try eventually,

Further update on this. I tried the ALDI skin on fries....For me at least, the iceland skin on fries are top.

Very good.
They tasted much like the iceland ones. These are definately my favourite and will be my go-to chips. I think mainly because the outside manages to maintain a rough/crispy exterior, much like the fries you get from Five guys (obviously nowhere near as good).

I'm a fan of what I would call a "medium cut" chip/frie, like you get in Nandos and used to in KFC until they went over to horrific skin-on. All the supermarkets and brands seemed to only do thin fries or fat chips and Booker only did medium cut in a deep fry version. I then discovered these:
For a regular midweek eating they are great. Weekends I'll make my own fat chips from scratch.

I do like a good thread revival, especially for something as important as chips. For a regular midweek eating they are great. Weekends I'll make my own fat chips from scratch.
I often go upmarket with mine and do them myself, chip the potatoes, I use a 5mm chip, into cold water in saucepan bring up to a simmer and drain, let them dry and toss in olive oil and salt and pepper or whatever you want, into a hot oven 15-20 mins toss around on the baking sheet half way. I like them, other people love them.

Thread could have been closed after the second post. These are the winner.
I’d have to disagree, I find them too greasy. Her in doors would agree with you though.andrewjamesroberts said:
