it still amazes me people willing pay 15 quid for a burger n chips.
Used to charge £14 in my old gaff, but that was with beef that we ground from cattle that grazed naturally along the river at the back of the pub, and mixed with marrow for extra beefiness. Buns were to our recipe and baked down the road. A lot of our veg was grown on allotments nextdoor. Chips were actually hand cut by us, not delivered in large frozen boxes marked "hand cut chips". Couple that with being in one of the most affluent parts of the country and I think it was most reasonable.
Put Bambi Burgers on the specials more than once. Always guaranteed to make at least one child cry. biggrin

It still amazes me that people are amazed by this.

It also still amazes me that people can't understand the difference between a McDs burger, a Five Guys burger and a decent quality burger. And that each has an associated price/value point.

Lol five guys, because it is expensive doesnt make it better. Before covid I used to be able to get organic burger and fries for 7 quid from a van, no tattoos or pretenious story just farmer to market food. People pay ing more doesnt equate more quality. But if you are happy fair enough.

I'm sure that bloke in the van has exactly the same sort of overheads and consistent quality of produce as a restaurant. I'm sure he's making an absolute fortune, but he decides to carry on serving out of a van because restaurants are soooo passe. laugh

There's literally nothing tattoo'y or pretentious about Honest Burger. Their premise is really simple - small menu, great quality produce, cooked well and consistently.

An Honest beef Burger with fries is 9 quid, while a Big Mac meal is 5 quid and a burger and fries is 10 quid at Five Guys.

Hardly worth getting your knickers in a twist over.

Its all relative isnt it. Organic farmer food trucks are not everywhere so you can really compare. At least these places doing £15 burger meals are doing fresh burgers on the premises and proper fresh chips unlike McDonalds and the others. Yeah maybe you cant justify the cost but then a farmer in a van doesnt have the overheads of Leicester Square etc. I mean some people will pay £18 for that pizza shown above....

Ouch! Used an offer code so worked out 1/2 the normal cost, would never pay full price for one - get the whole paying for convenience thing but even that has its limits...

it was just an example, i guess i'm lucky an abattoir a few miles away with slaughter to meat burgers supplied to a local farm shop, but not regular takeaways just pop ups at a reasonable price it seems compared to double from one of these soulless chains, i guess living in a concrete jungle is different..

Its all about overheads isnt it. The overheads of a pop up at a farmers shop or market are tiny. Whats the rent on a central london unit in comparison.

The Honest burger was a bit posh for in here, but let’s not all fall out over one of mans greatest, if not the greatest inventions.

If money was no object I’d still choose a fresh McD’s 1/4lb with cheese over just about any other burger, plus they are cheap which means I can eat more.

Good question, they don't give a size online but a quick google says 16" which sounds / looks about right.

I've spent all week reading this thread, mouth watering, planning on demolishing a feed from the chippy.

Forgot all about the thread in the joy of eating it. Forgot about the Warsteiner in the fridge too. mad
