Has anyone been to any of the Wendy's that are opening? The one in reading is alreay open (nowhere near me as I'm east london/essex). I'm unsure of when the other locations are opening.
West Thurrock Retail Park will probably be your closest when it openssc0tt said:

It'll be interesting to see how the likes of Wendy's, Popeyes etc fare in the UK. Popeyes have grand plans for at least 300 Drive Thrus but I can't see it happening.
From seeing the rate my takeaway video's it appears that the 'standards' of indie or small chain takeaways across the country is really going up? and spending proper money on getting a shopfitter to fit out a place professionally and 'branding' seems to be a normal now. So much more competitive. Will depend on how much Wendy's and Popeyes are willing to spend on prime advertising, and obtaining prime locations i.e. willing to be loss making for a few years.

Tim Hortons are paying ludicrous rents and reverse premiums to secure locations which can't be sustainable. Wendy's are a little more sensible and I've not seen too much of Popeyes yet. Will depend on how much Wendy's and Popeyes are willing to spend on prime advertising, and obtaining prime locations i.e. willing to be loss making for a few years.
I've noticed the same from watching Rate My Takeaway. The average McDonald's Drive Thru costs about £1m to fit out.
