The Spice Tailor ‘meal kits’ are awesome
Discussion
Just tried the Kerlan Coconut one.
Nice enough - probably the best 'supermarket' curry I've had, but you'd be absolutely devastated if you phoned for an Indian takeaway and something of that standard turned up.
I wish they had the Korma in stock so I could compare like for like. I'll go and have a look for that today I think.
They say they serve 2-3, but in reality it's less than one portion of takeaway curry. The whole thing, with 2 chicken breasts, comfortably fitted on my plate with a portion of rice, whereas a takeaway container needs to go on the plate in two installments.
Price wise, I paid £2 for 2 chicken breasts in Aldi, and £1.50 (half price offer) for the kit, so £3.50 for the curry altogether.
Without the half price discount, it would cost £5 which is comparable to a takeaway and not really worth it IMO.
I'll go and look for a Korma and report back.

Fair enough. That’s still getting on for 1000 calories on that enormo-plate RobbieTheTruth said:

Agreed, I make up a whole one just for myself. No way would i share. Just not enough. I had the Coconut one last night, and had the fiery Goan curry the night before which was quite spicy. Went to another Sainsbury's last night but all they had left was the coconut and the lentil curry kits. They say they serve 2-3, but in reality it's less than one portion of takeaway curry. Just tried to Goan one after the recos on here (couldn't try CTM or BC as they both contain cashews and I have a nut allergy). It was great but just a little too greasy for me (I'm a health freak).
Would definitely have again as a date night / weekend treat, but not on the reg.
We tried the Goan and while lovely, the after effects were quite painful. Arse like a sliced blood orange and loo roll in the freezer Would definitely have again as a date night / weekend treat, but not on the reg.

O/H came home with the Goan and the Keralan Coconut but suddenly I think I'll go 'mild' for this week's 'Friday night is curry night'...Incidentally, if you're looking for the usual Spice Tailor pack of three sachets in a cardboard sleeve you'll find they're now in 'Covid-19 friendly' packaging - a cardboard box. The contents are the same.

Just found the korma one in Tesco, so still got Korma and Butter chicken to try
Are Tesco running the half price offer?I'm another fan of The Spice Tailor, partly based on previous threads here, and have the Southern Pepper one lined up for tonight or tomorrow.
I've tried the Holy Cow ones a few times, but personally I've not found them to be that good, certainly not a patch on TST.
On the Charlie Bigham curries. Not a fan. Tried three of four of them - the Green Curry I actually liked, but did not think it was close to restaurant style, but the others I've found to be more 'western' taste and disappointing, especially for the cost.
Personal tastes of course.

No, so £3 for the kit and £2 for the chicken is taking it to £5 for a (admittedly large) portion of chicken korma.Looking forward to trying this one - it has more packets than the Kerlan coconut one. It contains a little base paste sachet that the last one didn't have.

Off the back of this thread, I've become a bit obsessed looking at these kits. I've tried the Holy Cow ones a few times, but personally I've not found them to be that good, certainly not a patch on TST.

I've picked up the Hungry Elephant Curry House Korma kit - anyone tried that one? Reviews are good.

Don't understand the issue with nuking rice. I buy rice in 20 kg sacks. I use 1.5 cups rice ( 4 pers), wash it 3-4 times. add water to about 1 cm above level of rice in a microwaveable glass dish + salt, nuke for 10 mins, add water to just float rice, nuke 5 mins. Nuke another 4 mins to match serving time of accompanying dish. No burning & no excess water. Consistently perfect "boiled/steamed" rice every time.
Fool-proof
I'm going to try that method. Rice is my cooking kryptonite. Just never been able to do it consistently without it turning to slop. Fool-proof
I’ve found the spice tailor kits fairly bland and unimpressive, these are far superior - https://tastesmiths.com/
