Long story short, buying a house off a chap who lost his wife earlier this year. He is wanting to move abroad to be with his remaining family, and Christmas & covid plod closer. He is getting really frustrated over the speed of the process and increasingly emotive. He disputes our solicitor's due diligence, but I do feel he is being too emotive & unfair in the reasonable asks on him.

There is very little we can do without exposing ourselves to risk, plenty of frustration at our end as well... However, before frustrations boil over I want to buy & get delivered to his house a bottle of something as a small token gesture of "we are frustrated as well, doing all we can. Please accept this as thanks for bearing with us."

However, I have no idea what he drinks. He is late 60s at my guess, so asking the pistonheads collective a "safe" £25 amazon bottle of something recommended? He does drink, i clocked wine on a shelf during the viewing.

Thanks smile

I'm a recent convert to spiced rum and, of the many I have tried, Rebellion is probably the best I've tasted. Neat and relatively sweet. I can't see how anyone could not like it and I don't like normal rum, whisky etc
£19.45 on Amazon but buy some hand soap for a quid for free delivery.

Bottle of whiskey, one of Vodka and one bottle of spiced rum at ALDI for £25. Delivered yourself is far more personal than Amazon..

^^^ This. Personally I think you can't go wrong with whisky for the older gentleman.

It’s a minefield buying spirits for someone you don’t know. If you are aware he drinks wine I’d go with a decent white & red.

If you clocked wine how about a reasonable bottle of red and a few decent ales? I generally find that a safer bet as some people claim certain spirits make them angry, give them bad hangovers or they just simply do not like rum, or vodka etc.

Get 4 different types of ale and you will have most preferences covered, do you have a good local brewery?

He's a wine drinker. Buy him some wine. Make it a good one (or 4).

I used to buy our UPS guy a pack of decent lager every Christmas to say thank you for doing a great job.
I found out later he doesn't even drink.
I love home made cider, I know one other person who likes it.
You have been warned, but I know it's the thought that counts...

The important thing here is the message, not the booze. Hand delivering a couple of bottles of wine will convey your intended message far better than an Amazon delivery.

If it is not worth going to the personal effort then it’s not worth bothering at all imho

No guarantee. I have two bottles of wine in my house. I don't drink.

Ok, thanks guys! You've got me convinced.

I'll buy some wine and drop it round later today. Hopefully he doesn't beat me over the head with it... hehe
