Coffee. Grinder and Cafetiere or Pods in a machine

I have had my DELONGHI Autentica ETAM 29.510.B Bean to Cup for the past two years. It’s been faultless and I got it for half the price they are now. I just use Lavazza or Kirkland beans from Costco. Tried them all. I prefer the lighter roasting. I use it for espresso only. Sometimes with water. Never milk.
I’m away (amazingly) on a course at the fire collage in Moreton this week. The Premier Inn’s Kenco sachets will not do. I bought a Hario V60 from Pact with their house blend. Was £12 or something silly with two bags. It is brilliant, and I have found myself not using the BTC. It tastes lovely.
That and a bottle of Jura will see me nicely through the week.

That's great! I'm not surprised you're getting much better results from a V60 over a Bean 2 Cup.I’m away (amazingly) on a course at the fire collage in Moreton this week. Strange as usually they last a couple of days or so.
I wonder how many were bought just to be put on ebay at nearly twice the price? Very good marketing though, I wasn’t sure if i was going to spend to upgrade, when I logged on to the site at around 15:45 and they were all gone, then I found that I *really* wanted one!

They literally go months without selling them, then sell out as soon as the next batch are ready.
The Solo will take a lot of their demand away, if it's as good as it appears.
Coffee Forums Uk owner Dave Corbey helped with the design of Niche, and as a result gets a bit of stick for showing favour bias to it. I don't think it's warranted, it's only right that he would endorse something he helped design/improve.
Dave has had the Solo for some time now. He hasn't shown much enthusiasm (understandable given his relationship with Niche) but basically said for anyone waiting for a flat burr version of a Niche, you've got one. That is huge news.

As mentioned here a couple pages back, I've recently started the home espresso journey with a Gaggia classic. Already spent far more than I ever expected on accessories and various bits and bobs (some vanity related). Picked up a used Iberital MC2 last week and now waiting for an April delivery Niche to arrive.
Machine is at 9bar presure now, but of course there's always more to be done, so next is to add PID temperature control. I'll also be swapping the momentary power switch for the old style rocker switch to allow use with a mart plug so I can have it warming up before I come downstairs in the morning.
I must say I'm looking forward to the Niche's arrival as the MC2's worm gear is takes quite a bit of adjustment to get right, and is a messy little pup, too but I'm nearly there with my timing, nearly a week in. Certainly requires a lot more thought than pre-ground with the pressurised basket but that was only ever going to be a stop-gap whilst I sorted a grinder (grinders!)
Quite happy with my little setup.

Nice, I think im leaning towards buying a nice and either a lelit machine to mod (as i think they look nicer) or more likely a modded gaggiaMachine is at 9bar presure now, but of course there's always more to be done, so next is to add PID temperature control. I stumbled upon this thread and down the rabbit hole whilst considering a replacement for my aging Sage Barista Express. I now seem to have a Lelit Marax and Solo single dose grinder on back order!
Brilliant combo!! Better than my set up (if the Solo does what it says on the tin).I'm excited the the Solo.
I hope so! The Solo is a bit of an unkown at the moment. I'd like to see someone do a side by side review against the Niche. However, I tried and failed to get on the pre order list for the Niche this weekend, so the Solo it is! As you say, if it does what it says on the tin it should represent great value for money.

I swapped my gaggia classic over to a vst basket today. First shot dropped through much quicker than expected and had battery acid notes. Going a little finer on the grinder is giving great results though, definitely a bit more punchy than the old basket.
Yeah, its quite a sharp adjustment. Are you on a naked portafilter?Arun_D said:

Check out Jame's Best Cheap Espresso Setup Video. It's not pretty but it is doable for £250.

Ha! I got beaten to it. The James Hoffmann video is excellent.
Stop it!........it all looks sooo tempting........I swear RTT is actually James or a rep for Bella Barista.....
That's just because I did loads of research, decided that was the setup I wanted and could afford, and it's worked well so far.
I'd take a punt on a Solo over a Niche if the reviews are good,
I'd also favour a Lelit Victoria over a Gaggia Classic if you can stomach the extra £200ish
