Hmmm. They're sneaky barstewards aren't they?!

I checked my confirmation email on the back of your post. The £286 they told me I'd pay at checkout is actually charged plus VAT so £344 according to the confirmation email.

Normally on really annoying websites, they spring the VAT at the checkout. With SG it appears they don't even do that!

Here's a quick example I've done on a random saucepan. This is the screen you get at checkout and 'click to order'. That's an £87 saucepan isn't it...? Nope.

I had exactly the same confusion when I received my confirmation email but I checked my account and they have only debited the pre vat price, I don't think the invoice formula is set up correctly unless I've got an extra 20% left to pay but I doubt it.

I've had debited the £270

Ah, right you are. They've only debited the 'net' amount, so it's their confirmation email that is the issue as you say thumbup

False alarm....

I had the same issue with the confirmation email and also with the order listing online for the first day, checked the following day and the amount online matched the amount debited from the card i.e. the amount I was expecting (£147-ish). No delivery date yet, having watched the video of "bloke on lathe making pots" if they turn up before Christmas I'll be happy cooking dinner on my swanky new handmade pans smile

I'm getting worried now. U-group has taken £78 from me but the invoice says £93 with VAT. Has someone messed up somewhere? Are we going to be dissapointed?

I'm starting to get a "if it's too good to be true, it probably is" type feeling

We have also been debited the pre VAT amount. Not sure why they have done it like that.

The 'order acknowledgement' doesn't look like it is calculating correctly. I think this is because the have a wholesale and retail business and the 'cut and paste' between the two hasn't been done very well. If you look at the T&C payment terms it is end of the month following the order date which clearly isn't correct for a retail site.

I have a question for my fellow pan heads. Is cooking eggs in a stainless steel frying pan as tricky as I'm reading in the Amazon reviews? I cook 2 eggs per day but I need to do it with as minimal oil as possible, I actually just use a few sprays of avocado oil. Should I avoid stainless pans for this reason and use non-stick instead?

I would, it saves tears and broken yolks first thing in the morning

A non sticky pan will make your life easier. Clean it with hot water and wipe it(no detergent) . Will last you forever.

But will I need to use a lot of oil to fry eggs in?

If you're using stainless steel, yes. Thats why you're better off just buying a nonstick pan. Because you can then use as little oil as you want.

No, a non sticky pan allows you to use the minimum amount of oil.

Update,

order placed on the 26th and I'm yet to receive my order but I have been assured that the saucepans will arrive in time for X-mas, hopefully they should be dispatched at the end of next week, all items apparently are made to order and with the large volume of sales during the 50% offer he has been overwhelmed which has caused the delay.

Thought I would nudge Samuel Groves to see how we were coming along, got this reply:

Sales said:
We're still dispatching orders up until the 21st December. We will be updating customers with orders outstanding once we have had a meeting to discuss production schedules for outstanding items in sets.
Hoping our order is despatched by Monday but glad I've held back on culling the saucepan drawer....
