Failed to intercept my drinking partner making an order whilst amazingly hungover just after Christmas and it (very) promptly arrived.

Cheese and bacon burger with fries.

Bland as fk.

Might as well have added salt and sugar to the contents of *my recycling bin.

It was edible unlike KFC, just really fking insipid. I feel sorry for anyone that believes they come anywhere close to being acceptably tasty. BK XL bacon double cheese is leagues ahead, and that's still a bit st.

Marketing and laziness, particularly of thought.
With the youth it's just following the herd.

They have no place in a forum section for people that actively enjoy food.

* Lies; I don't have one.
Also I'm suffering from flood induced grumpiness, don't be too offended.

So what you are saying is that you enjoy different things to others? I'm the same as you as I don't like the same things that some others like. Some people don't seem to realise this though do they!

If people knowingly want to seek out and find enjoyment in bland food then fair enough, minimalism is only for some, we're all different.
It's the people who actually believe it is tasty food that deserve pity. They are generally either victims of McD's marketing coven who have from an early age convinced them to see it as a treat, or physically incapable of differentiating between flavours, or a lack of.

Are you type A or type B DoubleD? wink

If people enjoy it, then they enjoy it, they don't need pity. You liking different things is fine as we all like different things.

What an odd thing to say, you probably enjoy food that 1000s don’t, do you deserve pity too...

A repost, but which category do these people fall into?

Victims of McD's marketing coven who have from an early age convinced them to see it as a treat, or physically incapable of differentiating between flavours?

Yesterday I had a McDonalds from lunch and an eat at home kit from a fine dining restaurant for dinner. Enjoyed both.

The extra ingredients in the fries used to be what made Mcdonalds imo, they stopped using the natural beef flavour in the UK around the year 2000 which is shame as they tasted so much better.
When I worked there (already posted when - around 1983 I think) the fries were actually cooked in beef dripping, as were the apple pies.

Given my relative youth at the time, I think I can be forgiven for neglecting to mention this fact to vegetarians who used to come in and order fries and an apple pie.

Quite like a McDonalds every couple of months or so, almost had one the other week but wasn't joining a queue of at least 30 cars for one... Don't mind waiting 5-10mins but beyond that its simply not worth the time for what is a pretty average burger, assuming its been made reasonably well - far too often it looks like the burger / box have been thrown in a washing machine and gone through two spin cycles.

Don't get those that eat it many times a week but that's up to them, what really gets to me is people who give it to their kids more or less every other day, its really not hard or expensive to cook something way better.

Fries are great in beef, not sure about apple pie though tbh.

Burger King recently got sued by a vegan as their impossible burger is prepared in the same way as the meat products

I do like a Big Tasty...

McDonald's is great - people forget that they're a franchise company, and so it's really a group of SMEs. Read the other day about a lad who went to work in one as a teenager, who now owns the franchises for most of Devon and Cornwall.

They're an incredible employer - both staff treatment and staff development. I've hired a few staff with McDs on their CV - one who's only employer had been McDs, coming into a completely different industry - and all have been excellent.

Always order a modified burger, and it'll be cooked fresh. That's been increasing in general, but covid I think has lead to more batch cooking and sometimes being tepid.

I worked for a firm that supplied ingredients to them. They were far and away the most exacting, but also collaborative customer out of the list that included pretty much every supermarket.

If I was desperate for a burger I would go to Burger King or a kebab shop. I'd only go to Maccy D's when I used to get vouchers from WHSmiths and newspaper offers.

As been said, marketing and convenience plays a lot even though the sight of queues in these establishments leaves me dumbfounded at times. A case in point, my great-uncle spoke could barely speak English but regularly went to McD's for his lunch of chicken sandwich and coffee.

I'm one of those who thinks MacDonalds taste nice. Love their double cheese burgers, and chicken nuggets. Can do a 20 share box all to myself. Also love their sausage & egg Mcmuffins at breakfast. I sometimes find their Big Macs a bit bland, but that's probably a higher ratio of bread to burger.

If you like something then you like it. I don't see why this might mean I have poor sense of taste as I like all manner of foods, and I'm certainly not won over my their advertising, and i don't see it as a treat. It's just decent tasting food whenever I fancy it.

Burger King Tripple Whoppers with cheese are my favourite takeaway burger though.

I think that is really quite a nonsensical thing to day.

Loads of people find McDonalds food tasty, as evidenced by the millions of meals they serve each day in the UK alone. That wouldn't be happening if people thought it was bland or not tasty.

I have had the privilege of enjoying fine food at all manner of top end restaurants, Michelin star etc, all over the world, and thoroughly appreciating the flavours on offer. I have a real penchant for nice wines, and am really quite fussy over taste in general.

But it doesn't stop me eating a McDonalds, or a greasy cheap kebab from some grubby takeaway, or a £6 pizza from a different grubby takeaway, and thinking "You know what, that was delicious"

Indeed.

Personally, I prefer the 'natural' approach of McDonalds UK, and the less ingredients the better. I put my health before something tasting fractionally better and being a bright artificial colour (They even use additives to make the fries bright yellow in the US).

I think the ingredients used by McD's in this country is really very good, British beef, British salad, and British and Irish potatoes etc, very little else added.

Some of the ingredients in American food and drink are horrendous. They use many additives that are banned in the rest of the world.
Worth a watch for comparisons

For me its a triple, extra onion, extra cheese, add bacon add lettuce, i just wish they would burn the buns a bit more.
