An occasional McDonald's user here (prefer Burger King myself ). Anyway my neighbours opposite are a family of 5 clinically obese people - 3 kids and both parents.
The eldest lad is 19 and weighs around 21 stone and has great difficulty getting in and out of his nice new VW Golf.
The second lad is 16 and weighs around 17/18 stone. The daughter is 14 and big all round.
Mum is short but obese and dad has difficulty walking properly due to his huge stomach.
The eldest lad left school and got a job - yes, you've guessed at McDonald's. On Thursday lunchtime eldest goes out in the car and returns with 2 McDonald's carrier bags. The same day for tea a takeaway was delivered. Nothing too odd about that until......
...... last Sunday dad was taken into hospital with Covid. On Tuesday due to his deteriorating condition the situation became so critical he was placed in a coma. The prognosis is not good due to diabetes, existing breathing difficulties and his obesity.
Perhaps for some McDonalds is an addiction.

True story.
The grandkids were staying and I love to cook, so I made proper classic hamburger for them one day. Recipe from Larousse. My granddaughter (about seven at the time) was watching intently.
When she twigged what I was doing she said "Ooh, are we having home-made McDonald's?"
Had to have a word with my son.
BTW McD in Baku, Azerbaijan does a very nice breakfast egg muffin and the best coffee in the city.

McDonald's apparently takes its coffee very seriously. I know the campaign I've seen outside my closest branch has a pun that jabs at coffee prices in Costa. I'm no coffee connoisseur so it could be the best in the world and I wouldn't know for certain.Driver101 said:

I do enjoy a Big Tasty, but I wouldn't queue around the block waiting 30 minutes for one.
I do agree about the mess anywhere a McDonald's is. There is no need to throw all the rubbish out.
Not a stranger to a McDonald's breakfast and coffee thanks to my shift patterns, but yeah the 30 min queues always astound me. Must've been a queue 40 deep of cars that I saw when they reopened after the first lockdown on a services somewhere. Incredible. Even more bizarre to think it's right next to a fuel station which will definitely sell food. I do enjoy a Big Tasty, but I wouldn't queue around the block waiting 30 minutes for one.

Have you ever worked in one? I haven't although I know two people (friend's children while at uni) who have and were thoroughly impressed.
In fact one of the kids needed persuading not to dump their degree and move into the role full time as they were fast tracked through to some form of management level. Apparently career progression there is done really well.
One lad I went to school with works at our local one, a bit of a simple lad but pleasant enough. He's again, some type of floor manager and earning a very decent wage according to someone else I went to school with. A quick google shows the lowest form of manager there earns £17k pa and goes up to £34k.
Plus you're getting fast tracked with management experience if you want to go through to other employers.
Given min wage from April (full time) is just shy of £19k that must be quite some time ago you are referring. I have McDonalds probably 3 or 4 times a year when need something quick.
Ultimately not everyone wants to find that cosy michelin star restaurant nestled away in a small village in a picture postcard village, with a 10 course tasting menu and artisinal fking beers when they want a quick grab and go lunch. Firstly the travel costs would be immense and secondly you normally need to book...

I don't think people do not understand that at all. I only like McDs for 2 things
BigTasty - their best burger. but getting pricey now
double cheeseburgers - probably the best value item there on a price vs calories vs protein standpoint.
Given it's £6 for a big tasty meal nowadays, I just buy the chilled burger quarter pounders you get in supermarkets. using the smash technique they cook in no time, taste better, and are cheaper. Just need to learn how to do the big tasty sauce, and also find the right buns.

People without cars are now claiming discrimination https://congleton.nub.news/n/cyclists-criticise-co...
I'm siding with McDonalds with this, in a car you're literally in a bubble if they let bicycles use the drive through then as soon as word got out they would be inundated with kids pulling wheelies and not social distancing, if someone is that desperate for a burger they can book a taxi to take them.
Aside from that I went into Sainsburys at 9pm in Sydenham last Saturday and the queue for the McDonald's driveby in the same carpark was crazy, at least a hundred cars long!

Yet if they die will go down as having no underlying health issues......The eldest lad is 19 and weighs around 21 stone and has great difficulty getting in and out of his nice new VW Golf.

Everyone I've seen on the news that's died from Covid with no underlying issues has been obese, I don't know why it's taboo to state the obvious as it could save lives.

Has McD stopped sending litter pickers out? It used to.I haven't had one in about a decade, mainly because there's not one that near me or on a usual route. 1/4lber with no cheese always had to be cooked fresh so was hot, though on balance a Whopper is better (or was).
A friend of mine (in London) uses the app and collects and says it works well.

It's strange isn't it, because if they used a proper beef burger with a decent meat content 'the people' would moan because it tastes different even though its better.
Its like they put crack in their burgers or something.
All they put in their beef patties are. Its like they put crack in their burgers or something.
Beef.
What is this crack you speak of? Or is it just more bandwagon jumping because you heard it once on the "Internet"
Funny how when the horse meat scandle was about McDonald's was never mentioned once.
I used to live on McD's Big Breakfasts at a couple of places I worked at (drove past the place on the way to work, so used to get myself one). Almost every morning it turned into for months.
Then I changed jobs and didn't have one for ages. Then I found out they stopped doing them a few years ago. I've been upset ever since !

I really like McDonalds.
Variety is the spice of life, and whist I enjoy Michelin star fine dining as much as the next man, I genuinely enjoy a McDonalds almost as much.
Yes, some of the meal deals are 1800 calories in one sitting*, which is horrific, but is it any worse than a meal in any other restaurant? You wouldn't eat in McDonalds every day anyway, the same as you wouldn't eat a 1800 calorie meal in a different restaurant every day.
( * Yes, a Big Tasty with bacon, large fries and a milkshake really is 1800 calories)
McDonalds use decent quality products and ingredients, the restaurants are usually clean and tidy, and they treat their staff well.
Everyone likes different things, but personally I find McDonalds burgers and fries delicious.
I can't really see the problem.
