Haagen Dasz vanilla contains cream (39%), sugar, milk, egg yolk and vanilla.

It's 39% cream and as a whole is 17% fat.

It's clearly premium, if not super premium?.
It might be all of that, but I bought a tub of HG before I had my New Forest delivery and I haven't gone near it. Its still sealed.

I was also at Bocketts Farm where they serve Marshfield Ice Cream in abundance this week. Its good ice cream but having had that on the back of this, no, its not the same. No depth of flavor and as always, too creamy. I want ICE, and flavor, and tongue ruffle. Not marketing and cream.

This was in response to the other poster saying their isn't any egg-yolk ice creams in the UK.

I'm not the biggest fan of HD but I do like it.

Marketing and cream is harsh. Without tasting it, I'd look at that Banana/Toffee one you have and put it back due to the first ingredient being Reconstituted Skimmed Milk, because I prefer cream/whole milk based.

We have someone who has their own ice cream brand in our village, Bradshaws.

They own a dairy farm and make a few different ice cream flavours and sorbets as well.

It is one of the best ice creams I've ever had and I like my ice cream!

Their vanilla is excellent, honeycomb is divine and then there are other flavours and some seasonal/specials they make.

They only live round the corner from us, so I tend to message them when I'm running low, the shop in the village stocks their ice cream as well.

They do a great brandy butter ice cream! Which they've been known to give as Christmas presents to a select few in the village. smile

We have Our Cow Molly on the outskirts of Sheffield

And Bradwells not far away in Derbyshire

https://www.bradwells.com/

Though I’m not sure what their ingredients aren’t if they are considered premium?

Haven't seen Loseley mentioned yet - made at Loseley Park near Guildford.

Good shout. Grew up about 4 miles away and my cousin had a summer job there (working with the Jersey herd). Loseley House is an interesting place to visit too. It's been the home of the More-Molyneux family for over 500 years!

Many many years ago when very young the wife worked at alone of those pop up ice cream stalls in Chelmsford, Baskin & Robins possibly. She got sacked for consistency putting too much ice cream into peoples cones. The limit was something like 60 grams but her portion size was always above 100grams.

This thread reminded me that there is a small ice cream factory quite close to where I live, and they have a factory shop so I went there today and picked up a few 2L tubs of different flavours. Not gourmet as the ingredients confirm, but still very nice on a hot day like today..

Ingredients suggest Carte-Dor type. Fancy flavours, with a reconstituted skimmed milk base and no cream in sight.

That said, I'd LOVE to try Lime Ripple! I love whippy with lime sauce from an Ice Cream van.

If not looking for the gourmet taste, then the lime ripple is very nice.

The factory shop was very busy today, with all the picnic tables full of visitors sat out eating ice creams. I was the only one that walked out carrying 4 x 2L tubs of the stuff..

New Forest are good, but I prefer to go to Carlos.

Need to take your own tubs though.

See, Carlos was always the stuff of legends when we were kids, however,it is seriously not even a close competitor since the likes of New Forest,Marshfield and Laverstoke have appeared.

I'd thoroughly recommend Purbeck ice cream too, but I admit at what looks twice the price delivered (if you're local anyway) of the New Forest option, it's a tough ask.

They used to do a stilton / blue cheese (can't exactly remember) ice cream which was pretty interesting!
Purbeck Salted Caramel is amazing.

Interesting thread. I grew up eating ice cream from Dixons Milk Ices in Huddersfield however it no longer seems to taste the same to me these days.

Had some cracking ice cream across the wrong side of the Pennines a few weeks ago from a place called Gingers Emporium in central Manchester.

Any recommendations for gourmet ice cream in or around Leeds?

I got pissed one night and decided i needed an ice cream maker. I passed by the frozen bucket things, and ended up buying an expensive electric one, and a book of ice cream recipes (think it was the ben and jerrys one)

To date, even the simple vanilla ice cream remains the best vanilla I've ever had. Also made an indian pistachio kulfee which was incredible.

After that, I realised it takes up a hell of a lot of space, put it away and havent seen it since.

Amazon kindly reminds me that I bought it in July 2014.

If you have the space, I would HIGHLY recommend it.

The other thing I'd point out, is that there is an UNBELIEVABLE amount of sugar in ice cream

We were on holiday in lake Garda several years ago and got talking to a Brit who had married a local lass.

His recommendation was to only buy ice cream that was stacked in the stainless steel tubs that were on offer. The tubs with the ice cream level with the top of the tub were manufactured in a factory, the piled tubs were made by an ice cream lover.

He also advised to check pizzas oven in rear of restaurants as many just supplied frozen ones. Check menu carefully for small print and they will state if they are made to order or just frozen.

His advice was good, fresh pizzas and ice cream always tasted better.

If you can’t get a good ice cream or pizza in Italy it is time to give up, I think the rubbish you get in this country does a disservice to Italian food.

I dunno, that whippy multi coloured gelato stuff you get from italian food supermarkets looks ghastly.

We also avoided the frozen bucket things and got a Buffalo ice cream maker.

It doesn't get used very often, but when it does (a few times each year), it makes truly excellent ice cream.

One of my favourites is blackberry using freshly picked blackberries from the garden.

It's also worth getting a decent book for recipes.
We found The Perfect Scoop has a good selection of recipes which work well.
