I was chatting to the owner of my local Indian take away, he was saying he had to go on Just Eat as all the others in the area had so he’d lose business. He said the commission was high but at least they paid him every Friday for the previous weeks orders. He asked me to always ring them to place an order.
...
Will he be throwing in free poppadoms or something to thank you for saving him money?...

I've never used Just Eat, or any of the others. I don't understand why folk can't just ring the takeaway themselves.
Or how folk can't read a thread.LeadFarmer said:

Read the thread, beginning to end, it’s already been explained why people do/don’t use JE.Back on topic,
I’m in the ‘JE are robbing b’stards’, but one thing’s for sure, they’ve made nearly all my local takeaways launch decent websites with payment options so I don’t need to use JE or call a busy phone line on a Saturday night, converse the order in Chinglish, spend 10 minutes explaining my address and then give my credit card details out to a persons unknown.

Mrs is still annoyed that the decent Greek place we've been to a couple of times is out of delivery range
That is another bonus of calling direct; living out in the sticks there are lots of places that are out of range of Just Eat but will still deliver if you call them up. C70R said:
The other London nuance that you haven't mentioned is that most places on Deliveroo simply don't have their own delivery drivers.
If I've had a couple of beers and fancy a Lebanese mezze session from a place that's 10-15min walk away, why wouldn't I just hit the button and not spend half an hour walking to/from a restaurant?
Another reason it’s useless having these arguments with people from places where there’s fk all. If I've had a couple of beers and fancy a Lebanese mezze session from a place that's 10-15min walk away, why wouldn't I just hit the button and not spend half an hour walking to/from a restaurant?
As you say, deliveroo has opened up ‘almost’ any place you want. These places did NOT deliver before.

Post lockdown do you thing some may stop?, or massively increase minimum spend. As if they have a full place of diners, they don't have the time for the deliveries perhaps. As you say, deliveroo has opened up ‘almost’ any place you want. These places did NOT deliver before.
I’m not even talking about the last year, way before that deliveroo opened up all manner of places.
One of my most used is Majestic actually, a mate of mine gets all his stuff from Waitrose delivered via deliveroo.
I just scrolled to the bottom of my page on Deliveroo, just to give those outside of town some idea of the scale - 1372 places I could get food from in 20 minutes. Spanning every possible cuisine you could name, it’s a different ballgame here.

My local curry house has a speciality called 'red fort delicacy'. Without going near a menu, does yours?
No it doesn't. I know the menus of the takeaways very well, as far as what I know I want/don't want. If you aren't very sure of the menus of your takeaways, couldn't you read them on Just Eat and then ring the takeaway direct? I just don't see any need to order via Just Eat at all.LeadFarmer said:

Just spent about four seconds googling the phone number of this evening's potential curry provider, having used Just Eat to browse their menu. Reckon it might take me an extra minute to call it in.
And I might not even get takeaway tonight! That's how much time I have on my hands!
Think I might walk to the pub and have a lovely pint in the sun.
So long suckers!
Enjoy your rat-race!

I can't be bothered finding the number, explaining what I want and why I don't want a coriander garnish on one of the curries, explaining where I live, continuously trying to spell out a double-barreled street name when they'll only listen to the first word, then blindly waiting for it to arrive, only to discover they have garnished it liberally. Then realizing I need cash.
I'll log into the app, order what I want, comment the order box, pay with one click and see exactly when they've left the shop and track delivery. If they've thrown coriander all over it, one click gets the money reversed.

Ah yes......."hello Mr Curry house, I fancy a curry, what's on your menu?"
"well........................"
In terms of whats on the menu it will be a combination of Box 1 and Box 2
Box 1
Chicken
Lamb
Keema
Prawn
Box 2
Jalfrezi
Rogan Josh
Dopiaza
Madras
Vindaloo
Korma
You can also read reviews from other people who may suggest other dishes.
You can look at some interesting side orders.
You can see prices.
You can see meal deals and banquets.
It's not rocket science why people want to see a menu.

It's great that Just Eat have all the menus in one place, allow you to quicky and convenient order any cuisine, take card, tell the driver exactly where your house is, allow you to track the order, and refund without quibble if there is an issue.
It's unfortunate that there commission is too high.
Anyone 'not understanding' why people use such a quick and convenient service are simply tooting barbs.

There's also some other companies starting to use these delivery firms now as well, my Mrs found one of the really good cheese stands at the market is now on it and we had a delivery of half a dozen cheese the other night
Do any of these companies apps remember your previous order? We've had a few times looking at a menu from places we've used before and couldn't remember what we'd had in the past, it would be really useful if the app told us.

You can keep a few menus of your favourite takeaways in the house, look at them and then phone the order in. It's the same thing but with the takeaway receiving all the money. You can also read reviews from other people who may suggest other dishes.

It's can be hassle phoning restaurants up, explaining your order, making little tweaks, spelling out your address, phoning it back after an hour to see if it's on it's way, making sure you've got cash, being bang out of luck if an item is missing etc etc.
Yes, it's a shame the commission is so high, but for someone who gets delivery at least 3 times a week, these apps are a blessing.
Quick, easy, trackable, pay on card, refund if issues.
I think that all of the people extolling the virtues of Just Eat must live in towns or cities, or very close to them.
As posted by someone earlier, if you live in the wild hinterlands you will generally have more options phoning direct. I can't order a Papa Johns Pizza for delivery via their website, but if I phone up and order - they will deliver. This means I miss out on their offers, but for the very occasional convenience - it's worth it. Likewise with an Indian Takeaway. There are only 3 or 4 on Just Eat who will deliver to me, but probably about 30 others that will deliver if I phone up (I live approx 5 miles from the nearest town, but there are takeaways in lots of the small villages). As the quality of the food is extremely variable between these places, it's very much a case of settling on one whose food is acceptable and then ordering from them every time.
I can see where Just Eat fits into the marketplace, but it doesn't work for me.
Now Deliveroo on the other hand - if I lived somewhere where they operated (and I wasn't on a diet at the moment) - I'd be using them 2 or 3 times a week. Getting decent food from actual sit down restaurants delivered to your house - fantastic. Whatever you pay in delivery is dwarfed by what you save in the mark-up on the wine if you were eating in.
