I shall be spending the greater part of this afternoon in a Spoons.

I've always thought they look after their ales and Guinness very well.

Has anyone stayed in a 'Spoons hotel?

If so, what are they like?

Never, but I imagine they are like a city centre Travelodge. Full of over crowded rooms with drunken Stags and hens screaming all night in the corridors.

That is pure conjecture though. Based on nothing more than price and location.

I had to stay in one in Andover and, as much as I like drinking in Spoons I was dreading it but needs must... Turns out it was actually really nice, decent fixtures and fittings and they gave us a family room that had a seperate area with a sofa and telly, so I watched Match of the Day whilst my missus had a relaxing bath. And then down for breakfast and a pint in the morning biggrin

Brewdog make Wetherspoons look like a Michelin restaurant.
Prefer the food at Brewdog

Brewdog Waterloo is decent if you're in a large group as they have activities like table tennis and a slide down to the bar, clientele is millennial hipster and suits having a pint after work.

Meant to be the largest pub in Europe so does lack atmosphere if visited on a day other than Thurs-Saturday.
I haven't eaten in a Brewdog in a long time, but the food was pretty tasty and reasonably priced the last time that I did. However, the bars themselves are a shadow of what they once were. They used to have a decent selection of craft beers both on tap and in the fridge. Now it is mostly just their own sh&tty beers and at an extortionate price for the quality of the beer that you are getting.

Stayed in one in Malvern when I was doing a course down there. Pleasantly surprised. Although I went back one day and the furniture was upended on the bed, cleaner obviously forgot to put it back after vacuuming!

Similar level to TravelHovel, PremierInn sort of thing. Advantage of being able to have a cold one in quite a reasonable venue during a hot spell. Breakfast acceptable. It's no 5* place but then neither are the prices. I'd use one again quite happily.

One in Bedford. Was decent nick, quiet time of week (and town) so no issues with noise or anything. Was cheap. Breakfast was a bit odd. People at 8am clearly there waiting for the taps to switch on.

Not the end of the world though, some poor overworked cleaner made a mistake. Least it shows the rooms get cleaned.

The Foley Arms, couple of cheap drinks then plenty of other options. Without the investment by Spoons the place would have fallen into further disrepair. I can see my house from that balcony.

Yes, several times.

Perfectly adequate, but not normally right up to the minute decor.

You are, of course on site for a spoons breakfast in the morning. As I recall, everything is pay as you go, so there is no bill to settle when you leave.

Watched the C5 Weatherspoons v Toby carvery nonsense on TV. Compared breakfast, lunch and dinner and they consistently failed to highlight the value of the included drink.

So the dinner.... "we selected meals of the same value, the Toby carvery and the Weatherspoons cod, chips and peas, both around £10.50, although the Weatherspoons meal does come with a drink."

Errrr, yeah, it does. A 660ml bottle of Peroni or Asahi which is £5.75 in Toby. So you're actually comparing a £16.25 Toby meal with a £10.50 Weatherspoons meal.

And the cod and chips still won.

We stayed in a wetherspoons hotel in Northolt last year, was handy for having food prior to going out and then for breakfast in the morning.

I'd happily stay there again but i only normally use a hotel as a base so dont go for 5 star deluxe places
