Sorry but I tried the Sainsbury Sangiovese last night and whilst I am not going to say it was undrinkable (it wasn't) it was very much in the Ribena league. probably great for glugging at a barbie but lacking any degree of complexity or interest - sorry if I sound like a wine snob (I'm not at all well read on wine I just know what I like, and this wasn't it).

Some to go at here> https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/shop/drinks/...

Two different styles, but quite like the st chinian, and Argy malbec

This doesn't quite fit the brief at £15 a bottle but 25% off ie. £11.25 if you buy six

Bread and Butter Cabernet Sauvignon

It's absolute textbook Californian Cab Sauv. Smooth and although at the limit of my sweetness/jamminess tolerance, lots of fruit really well integrated tannins and nice use of oak. Not silly alcohol at 13.5%. The vanilla is quite strong so some might not like this. Had it with a quite salty savoury dish so balanced the food very well. Might be a bit unidimensional on its own.

For me it's a really nice hybrid of New World and classic Claret.

Aldi comes through at this price point 14.5%,quite fat on the palate, oak comes through, had a sniff of the bottle immediately after opening, vanilla and red berry. Decent.

Busts the budget by .99p (from Waitrose) but worth it in my opinion. A total berry fest and very smooth. Lovely stuff but dangerous as I could finish the bottle myself. I recently switched to reds as whites were giving me acid reflux. So still finding what suits my taste buds and this is bang on.

Out of budget for this thread, but this was surprisingly not disappointing for supermarket wine at £16 - did buy it thinking I would probably regret it.

Is the Mad Fish Shiraz any good? Tesco have it on clubcardprice for £7.

Probably between that and the 19 Crimes (which I really like), also on clubcard price at £7.25

idea I'll get both...

Where are you in Europe where 19 Crimes at €11 is good value?

I had the exact same bottle of 19 crimes as a birthday gift recently, after a glass of it I looked as glum as the convict on the front of it.

There is one that is "aged in rum barrels" which is decent for under a tenner, but I still end up going back to Apothicab. Saying that, the one with the rapper Snoop Dogg on the front is also quite drinkable!

That is a Tesco club card price, €15 usually which is how much the other three in the range cost, I here you, its not going to satisfy a sophisticated palate.

Not trying to be superior, but I just can’t get my head around paying £10 for a bottle of Aussie blended shiraz… £15 is surely just a pricing con so you think you’re getting a deal at £10? No one’s going to pay £15 for it, are they?

Reminds me of what Tesco and Hardys used to do a few years ago… price their cab/Shiraz at £10, then promote it at ‘£5/HALF PRICE!!! on a gondola end… it was never anything more than. £5 bottle of wine at best.

Surely there are better wines than 19 Crimes for that sort of money?

I would think pretty much any Crianza level (or above) Rioja would be a much nicer wine… and they should be available for well under £10.

Trapiche 'pure Argentinian Malbec' is on special offer at the Co op at the moment for £7.50 and is really quite decent.

It's easy drinking but it a good way - not too jammy, un oaked, and a bit of tannin to balance things.

It's quite true over here in Eire comparative prices can make your eyes bleed, wine especially in the under €20 mark is priced enthusiastically, over €20 seems to even out, I do buy mostly from Lidl and Aldi so go to a wine shop to buy over the €20 mark. obsv.

Yeah I've had that and been unimpressed.

Less than a tenner in the UK, slightly more over here in Eire, I'd choose this over a bottle of the Ink. 😉

A little more than £10 but Lidl organic vacqueyras 2019 at £11.99 is as good as if not better than most £30 bottles of Chateauneuf du pape imho.

Bought a bottle of M&S "Classics" Claret. Was on a par with £24 bottles of wine I've had.
