The one in Oldham? It's usually pretty good but a bit pricier than others in the area.
Sorry should have mentioned, it was one in Huddersfield. Used to eat in the original one in Bradford when I was a kid!

I am staggered by the prices of Indian and Chinese takeaways being reported on this board. The following menu is from my favourite Indian takeaway in Kent. My missus and I would normally have Dansak, Meat Biryani (includes a veg curry as well), Sag Aloo and a plain Naan - £21,70 for two people and they still do normal portion sizes, so enough left over for a decent, spicy breakfast the next day.

I'm in Kent and rarely can find a curryhouse for less than £50 per head when drink is factored in, the portions are noticeably smaller these days so can't share mains anymore.

Fish and chips for £20 per head is still good value for money imo.

Last month went to a 'cheap' fusion hipster type of Indian in Kent, the quality of food wasn't that great yet only saved perhaps a fiver per head when compared to going to a nicer establishment, pre pandemic that difference would easily be over ten pounds.

Portion size was tiny so ended up having two mains whereas in a proper curry house the portions would have been larger so overall better value for money.
Edit: found the bill

County level means nothing. I’ve only been to Gravesend once and I won’t be repeating it. I went to Tunbridge Wells on Saturday and all very pleasant it is to.

Same in London, Good Earth 100m away from a st in a tray merchant.

Why are you now adding in the cost of alcohol to the food? That's further confusing the price of the food. We are really talking about takeaway prices too.

There is three bottles of wine that bill accounting for £57.

The bill says there are four people being served. £26 each for the food and restaurant service isn't bad.

My excellent fish and chips is £7.80 for a large haddock and £3.20 for a large chips on top, both of which are so large they feed two. This is County Durham though. Other slightly more expensive ones available (esp to ensure dripping) while much cheaper ones too which are less convenient for me.

I would suggest that you are just showing off about how much money you throw away. I have never paid more than £40 for the two of us in an Indian restaurant including a couple of glasses of Kingfisher and we have left satisfied.

That is exceptional IMO and I bet it is really fresh as well. Just seeing that is making me yearn for a lovely piece of beer battered haddock.
Bet it isn’t really fresh, not from the Barents Sea, not that there’s anything wrong with well frozen fish

York by any chance? Tried Goodfillers when I lived 'in town' but not The Codfather.

I came across one in New Cross

Took this pic in 2015, not sure if it's still around as gentrification has taken place since then.

How can drinking the cheapest house red on the menu be a flex? They didn't serve pints and only sold beer in 330ml bottles (starting at £5.50 per bottle) so the couple of glasses of King fisher would set you back at least £11 per person.
I was merely pointing out that having fish and chips is still only half the price of having a cheap Curry or a Chinese, food inflation has affected the price in all types of food establishments not just fish and chips.

You've got chips to add to the price of the fish.

Either you have very small appetites or enjoy the taste of pets! not sure how any hygiene rating passing indian can feed 2 for 15 quid each...

no showing off in by the 2nd poster at all. i dont think you have a realistic grasp of the cost of indian/chinese.

i was abandoned for the weekend so treated my self to a chinese from the 'best' (i say best but theres no such thing really, they all seem to do one dish well and others not so well, and this one doesn't seem to have hairs in it...like the closest one does) 'normal' chinese(it has a eat in area and is fine if you like being shouted at by waiters/waitresses, but not the fancy towie end of the market level chinese that also exist here) that do takeout in town, with the intention of having leftovers next day for lunch (and being a fat bstad currently). i had:

salt and chilli prawn (about 5 king prawns)
prawn dumplings (3 v small dumplings)
veg spring roll (4 mini ones)
prawn toast

Singapore noodles
chicken chow mein
egg fried rice

the online menu i ordered from (you have to call and collect yourself) had no prices on and i haven't tried it in a year at least, and it came to over 60 quid.

which i found quite shocking (i didnt ask on the phone how much) i turned up and paid but asked for my receipt but only got the credit card one, not itemised, so costs are rocketing, yet despite that was packed inside and 3 folk before me collecting takeout as i was waiting for mine...

portions of the mains was in smaller plastic tubs than usual too. i would have expected it to be around 50 quid at most.

to make things worse it was mostly rank, apart from the starters... rather than warming up for saturday lunch the mains mostly ended up in the field for the foxes and other vermin to nosh on. thats throwing money away...i wont be going back for a while.

OK, I don't know if you are trolling, but £60 for one person for a takeaway Chinese - really?

Ah, The Wee Chippy. I think I posted earlier in this thread, or in another thread, about spending nearly £70 in there on takeaway for a family of 4 last October. Admittedly we did over order a bit, so had a good amount of leftovers the next day, and that included some drinks but good though it is, cheap it is not.

I'm finding more and more chippies have adopted the deliveroo model and have one price for collection and one price for delivery to offset the websites cut.

An example:

Collection
Large Cod £9.45, Large Chips £5.15, Saveloy £3.00, Mushy Peas £2.25 - Total 19.85

Deliverpoo
Large Cod £12.75, Large Chips £7.20, Saveloy £4.05, Mushy Peas £3.25 - Total 27.25 excl delivery charge

Yeah, that's the one, £70, wow that must have been some order... we are usually under £30 for two adults and two kids, admittedly more if either of us actually have fish 🤣
