I agree.

I think I spend at least fifteen quid per person on pizza, probably more with half a garlic bread or something else. I have just checked and a medium mixed donner is 10.90 here.

My normal order from the Indian is £32 for just me.

Large cod and chips locally is 11.40, and that's cheaper or very close to every other type of take away.
At least £15 per person for pizza and they still require garlic bread? £32 for a takeaway Indian?

£7.50 for cod and chips at my favourite chippy in Lancashire. They advertise that fish is fresh, not frozen.

Considering how good they taste, I feel they're great value.
Which Fish and Chip shop is that?

Depends where you live. Massive differences across the UK.

Regular cod & chips £9.60 near me and it’s very good.
A place I go to occasionally in the Welsh valleys has a £3.50 lunch deal - in both quality and size it’s sufficient.

I recognise I live in quite an expensive area of the country. A burger and chips in a pub is 14 quid for example. So I wanted to compare actual costs of comparable meals from my local places.

I just accept that this is the price of food when I eat out or get a takeaway. There aren't many places that cost a great deal less within easy reach.

I wouldn't say £14 for a burger and chips in a pub is unusual. Your fish and chip price wasn't too far out either. Your large fish and chips is 70p more than my local.

£15 gets a 16" pizza from a takeaway place around here. Mainstream places like Dominos is £12(there is always offers on) for a large pizza.

£7.90 for naan bread? That's really expensive for a naan. That is a good bit more expensive than Indian takeaways around here. It's is on par with a restaurant rather than a takeaway.

Fish and Chips has always been a cheaper takeaway option. It's quick and easy to prepare. I don't think it's fair to directly compare to another takeaway meal with starters and multiple sides that require more preparation.

We are in the SE (kent) and fish and chips are still extremely cheap compared to everything else!

Indian for 2 £50 easy
Chinese for 2 £35ish
Kebab for 2 £30

Fish and chips for 2 £18 and its really good we have haddock.

I believe it's £9.50 for regular cod and chips at my local, £11 for a large (East Lancashire).

However Mon-Thurs you can get a regular F&C for half price via uber.

Annoyingly the chips are almost always undercooked. Its got to the point where I prefer oven chips made in the air fryer.

2 fish and 1 chips, 2 large mushy peas last night was 17 quid. North Yorkshire village. Very good it was, too.

More than it once was, but pretty good really. A fast food drive thru for 2 is likely to hit 12-15 quid these days.

At our best local place down here in Kent, the large cod meal deal (fish, chips, side and drink) is £10.75, so pretty fair IMO.

WTF yikes

I had a pathia a keema pilau rice a plain naan and three popadoms last night and it was £13.

£7 for a naan is taking the piss if it isn't a typo or means something else.

I thought the £7.35 I've just paid was bad. Looking at this thread perhaps not!

its not just fish and chips, the doner kebabs are a rip off too..

One chippy near me charges £10 for a large doner kebab. basic pitta, cheap elephant leg and salad. another chippy half a mile up the road does the same thing for £7...

made worse by the fact that the turkish restaurants near me do quality doner kebab for £10. you get good bread they've made on the day, rice, bulgar, chili sauce, and mint saue that they've made (not from a bottle) and a realy nice salad that has sumac, parsley, mint et... dont know why you'd then ever bother getting the crap kebab for the same price.

Thats for two (delivered), not cheap but overall I don't think its ridiculous if the quality is good.

I'm assuming central London?

That'll teach me to read smile

Still seems pricey.

Checked the menu of my local and the plain Naan was £2.25 and the rice £2.95 and 10% discount on collection for orders over a tenner.
