one of the last ones we had was Donnington services it took over 30 minutes to get our food it was all cold, all the order was wrong the beans were several hours past their best before too. if it was busy i could give some leeway on speed of service. when i complained they came back with maybe they misunderstood when you ordered hence the order was wrong

my reply
" Hi I'd say communication could be an issue but since the order was placed at a kiosk it just comes down to lack of care or inability to read. I'd say most likely is just not caring especially serving sides that should have not been given out so they aren't managing the rotation of the product. I mean what else has been sat there for 7 hours?

I think one mistake is acceptable everyone is human but 2 incorrect burgers, 2 out of time sides, 2 cold portions of fries and missing the chicken bites is taking it a bit far that's 7 mistakes in 1 order."

i got £12 back and the one i spent it at was actually really not bad

its like Frankie and bennies some are not bad, others truly awful and not just a one off meal but repeatedly. end of the day it comes down to staff and the care they have for their job

has KFC got worse, or have all of our expectations of fried chicken gone up...

Chicken is the most consumed meat globally. The price of it has near doubled in the past three years too so it's no surprise KFC is getting costlier.
Round here farmers looking to diversify from mainly sheep farming are opting for IPUs, "industrial poultry units"; big shed used to raise +20k chickens at a time. Some are getting IPUs as part of a funded package, so they're effectively just hosting and staffing them. Animal welfare standards can be pretty good. There is a fair amount of local opposition every time someone tries to set one up, but that strikes me as rather short-sighted. Unless everyone is going to start eating lentils, one way to reduce people's red meat consumption is to encourage them to switch to eating chicken instead. Healthier and lower environmental impact; win win. And the local negative impact is pretty limited too; a big green-roofed shed and a few truck deliveries. The upside is a farm that doesn't go bust and a few more local jobs.

A friend does this for pigs - call it "bed and breakfast". Feed is also provided (bulk buying) and they are inspected regularly. Fairly good welfare standards (large airy barns, well kept and clean. He supplied to Waitrose mostly and he says they pay a reasonable price and importantly pay him promptly.

You should see how they treat mushrooms! Kept in the dark and fed manure.

McDonald's and KFC drive throughs are within spitting distance of each other here.

McDonald's, always rammed no matter the time. KFC has virtually no customers.

On the odd occasion, I will go to KFC, purely on the basis of a ridiculous offer on the app. Most recently a box meal for like £3 and then on top of that I won a mini burger on some weird spin game on the app, so a good amount of calories for next to nothing.

Most of the people I know do the same, never actually pay full price and it is nothing to do with being tight, but the quality. It's worth a risk at a few quid, but not at full price.

How a business operates like this, I have no idea, they don't have the volume to make money on cheap deals.

If they don't watch out Wingstop may put an end to their business as they are expanding massively.

In London, Korean fried chicken places have started to open up which offer a much nicer experience. I don’t think you can beat having chicken fried to order, put straight on your plate. Interesting sauces, the pickles and beer go nicely with it too. Double the price of fast food places however.
Ah yeah I was thinking of this thread and thought I'd ask if you've had the Korean fried chicken craze yet. The number of shops ramped up quite a bit where I am (Australia). It's not cheap and the increased cost of chicken will threaten their bottom line as much as their tasty fare threatens my waistline.

Tried a wingstop the other day - like Five Guys, marginally better than the standard fast food equivalents for a ridiculous premium

Interesting, personally I'd choose KFC anytime over a McDonalds.

On another note, tried Popeyes recently and maybe I was expecting too much, but didn't find it any better than a KFC and you could taste the cooking oil on the chicken, like they had drained it off, which didn't help. The sauce was pretty nice though and so were the chips. I'd give it another go though, next time that I'm back in the UK.

Are they always cheaper on the app?

Had a KFC today, fist one in ages. I ordered on their touchscreen and paid about £9.50 for a 4 pice meal. It was lovely chicken, but pricey.

They’ve got too expensive now for sure. The app is the same price but they give some offers which often aren’t great value either. The app gives the opportunity to win food but it isn’t enough to compensate for the high prices.

Portions seem tiny too. I used to fill up on a mighty bucket for one but it hardly touches the sides now.

Is there any chain that does quality fried chicken in the UK? Is Popeyes as good as in the US - I see they have more stores but not yet made it to Yorkshire.
I know this isn’t exactly a timely reply, but if you’re in Yorkshire and want fried chicken, surely you’ve been to Marstons?

Top notch.

Popeyes is crap in the UK. It is marginally better than KFC. It’s a shame because they both could be so good with a couple of tweaks and some care

How do you mean, eat it and then hit yourself on the head with a bottle of champagne to silence the tastebuds?
