Rou jia mo. Slow braised pork, pork fat, pork muscle and coriander, all housed in a crispy/flaky pastry, style bun.

Very juicy and succulent.

Looks lovely and very much something I'd like to try but is it a sandwich?

Years ago I used to do a lovely baguette style sandwich, or focaccia:

Cut bread open and put under grill
Cut brie cheese into thick-ish chunks and put on the bread just as it's starting to toast a little
Add cooked bacon on top and basil leaves
You can add tomatoes too

TBF, I'm not sure what I'd call it. According to the internet, Rou Jia Mo (Pork Belly Buns).

Is a pie barm a sandwich? If yes then that.

If no then I will take a ruben, ideally from Mels in Sherman Oaks near LA.

Yeah, looks good but I thought surely that is posh stuff ‘on toast’ and not a sandwich.

Could be a candidate for best open sandwich ever - but what have you done to that lobster, deep-fried it?

Nope, reste of garlic butter lobster I finished after service. Otherwise the poor thing was going to the bin. Just reheated it quickly to go on my morning breakfast.

If anyone wants an amazing authentic lunchtime Banh Mi in London (near Liverpool Street), there's a French-Vietnamese chap that started out selling them from a bicycle trailer outside the Army Reserve Centre in Clifton Street, now upgraded to a pink van. Banh Mi and Sons

OMG that's a 5 min walk from me right now.

EDITED - I found him smile

C5, Did you ever get round to trying the 'Pink Van' Banh Mi?
Had this thread saved for the day I finally got around to trying it, well today's the day!

Went for the classic chicken thigh Banh Mi. My word, fresh would be an understatement. Do I remember correctly that someone said he makes the baguettes himself? Either way, the bread is astounding. One of the best bits of bread I've ever had hands down. All the elements are spot on. Moist, juicy, flavourful thighs, fresh crunchy pickles and coriander, perfectly balanced mayo and spice.

At first I was a bit apprehensive that the picked carrot and cucumber were big old slices as I'd usually prefer them shredded/smaller batons however having just eaten it I'm not mad about it at all. It works well with the chicken and coriander. Lovely vinegary flavour perfectly balanced with everything else in there.

Personally I'd like it spicier but I noticed on the menu you can just ask for chilis which is a good shout as that way you don't alienate those who don't want the heat.

For £10 I'm struggling to think of something fresher or more flavourful that I've had for lunch and I'm coming up blank.

Not the greatest picture but I'm not a professional food blogger rofl

I made a nice gyros meal the other week with lamb and chicken, salad, feta cheese, pita bread and 2 sauces - red chilli sauce and tzajiki style garlic sauce. Very nice it was.

However, the real treat was next morning when I crammed bacon, egg and sausage into a remaining pita bread with salad, sauces and a lump of feta.

You know when something is so good you start to feel sad that it's going to end soon? It was like that. Absolutely stunning.
