Best sandwich ever - recommendations

For a treat, quality seeded bread thickly buttered with salted butter, topped with a generous portion of king prawns in "thousand island sauce" (I just do ketchup and mayo) with a good handful of crisp iceberg lettuce. Eaten immediately to ensure the bread doesn't get soggy. Delicious.
For the "daily beater" I do love a mature cheddar (grated of course) topped with Branston pickle.

Back in 2016, my wife and I were up on Park Lane for a meeting early one morning. The only place we found that was open and serving breakfast was The Dorchester. I had their bacon buttie. It was absolutely incredible!!!
Last time we were back in the UK we went but I think they had removed from their menu.

The pastrami sandwich in Katz's Deli in New York is amazing and my first thought for honours but I wouldn't want to have one every day.
25 years ago I sometimes used to go to a place opposite the Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand called Messrs C which sold a sundried tomato and mozzarella on ciabatta sandwich. I don't know what they did with it - I don't generally like a sandwich without meat, nor with tomato on - but I had it every time I went there because it was divine. Still make my own copy now; not as good, but at least I can remember how the real thing tasted.
Or a roast pork and gravy stottie. Never had a bad one.

Patty butty anyone?
Id go with the simple bacon and egg. I dont like most sandwich fillings or sauces. My go to packed lunch is a sandwich and its always been just ham(butter of course), sometimes with ketchup.
ETA: a spam/pork fritter in a breadcake with beans vinegar and chip spice goes down well...or is that for the council thread?

I think a simple cheese & ham is hard to beat.
Sharp mature cheddar, good quality thick ham, fresh crusty bread. I could eat several of those before getting bored.
Yeah I'm with you here, it's about the quality of the ingredients that makes it. That said, I'm quite partial to the most basic Ham and Cheese baguette from Greggs when the mood takes. But you can do so much with it. Mature cheddar with some smoked ham? Emmental with honey roast ham? The possibilities are endless.
For those enjoying a Reuben sandwich and various iterations I would recommend the Brass Rail at Selfridges. It’s not cheap but compared to something like Five Guys burgers it’s great value.
A sandwich I had a couple of weeks ago absolutely blew me away, burnt brisket ends, two fried eggs, gerkins and cheese in butter fried toast from Denny’s of all places. Absolutely one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten.
