Burger King App Rip Off

No, payment is only taken when you check in. You can place the order as early as you want but the last step requires you to be at the restaurant.
You do go through the “pay” screen, but are not charged unless you subsequently check in.
How do you check in. Is it gps based? You do go through the “pay” screen, but are not charged unless you subsequently check in.

It's a very long time since I went to Burger King, but why do you have to order in advance of arriving? Surely it's fast food?
Arrive
Ask for food
Pay for food
Collect food
Leave
What am I missing?
You get points if you do it on the app, it is also easier because all you do is give a reference instead of having to order through a speaker and avoids any communication problems.Arrive
Ask for food
Pay for food
Collect food
Leave
What am I missing?

Either they made the food in advance, ready for you to pick up, and therefore the food had to be thrown away when you didn't collect. Ergo it's right for you to be charged.
Or they don't make the food in advance, in which case what's the point of pre-ordering?
Was thinking the same. Then I've not used any food apps other than Deliveroo, so don't know if there are any perks to using the app.Or they don't make the food in advance, in which case what's the point of pre-ordering?

Again it is Burger King, fast food, they don't make food to pre order, there are no Michelin rated chefs cooking your food in the few minutes it takes to give your order at the speaker to driving up to the pick up window. Or they don't make the food in advance, in which case what's the point of pre-ordering?
If they want to take the money I am fine with that, but I should still be able to pick up the order when they are open, next day.

Obviously you got charged. Or do you think they should only cook it when you arrive to collect?!
That's precisely how the McDonalds app works, you check in when you arrive and they charge you at that point. Errrr, different restaurants have different methods of doing things. So what? If you don't like the BK system, don't use BK.

I mean next time I go into Tesco and take something of the shelf then decide I don't want it they should charge for it anyway as the freshly made it
I won't be using Burger King, sadly.
the bk apps also makes you check in, upon which it charges you, at least it used to. different to the mcdonalds app, you dont have to be nearby to check in, again at least in the past. as bk is so slow usually do it 15 mins away.
as for all the they dont make it from scratch folk. not cook or make, but definitely ASSEMBLE it from scratch, no chains have ready made things sitting in the heater waiting to be plonked in an order on the off chance someone orders it, especially not always low traffic BK's, which probably do cook most from scratch as they are always dead and food would be off. its why fast food is no longer fast, especially bk. kfc is quicker but not really much to assemble unless you have a burger/wrap.

Yes, Burger King is quite slow and there are times I have waited for ages at the window, KFC is a little better, McDonalds is usually quite fast.as for all the they dont make it from scratch folk. not cook or make, but definitely ASSEMBLE it from scratch, no chains have ready made things sitting in the heater waiting to be plonked in an order on the off chance someone orders it, especially not always low traffic BK's, which probably do cook most from scratch as they are always dead and food would be off. its why fast food is no longer fast, especially bk. kfc is quicker but not really much to assemble unless you have a burger/wrap.
Weeks after writing to them, I did get a reply yesterday, apologising for the inconvenience and are looking into the problem.
I guess they must read PH?

Interestingly, as others have mentioned, both the KFC and McD apps will refund if you don't "check in". I find that element of the app, being able to order "pay" in advance of getting to the restaurant quite useful. That with table service is good when dining with kids.
I think would be better if you could check in anywhere. If you dont turn up and get charged so be it.
As I custom mcds...no ketchup...it always takes a while on my monthly treat. So I check in and park for 5 mins at least before then going into drive thru or inside to collect which is often quicker if its busy...plus no danger of some gormless chap wandering around thr car park looking for your car when they inevitably tell you to park up. But even doing that it's typically still a 10 min wait at least for thr order.
