Interestingly, as others have mentioned, both the KFC and McD apps will refund if you don't "check in". I find that element of the app, being able to order "pay" in advance of getting to the restaurant quite useful. That with table service is good when dining with kids.
I think would be better if you could check in anywhere.
If you dont turn up and get charged so be it.

As I custom mcds...no ketchup...it always takes a while on my monthly treat. So I check in and park for 5 mins at least before then going into drive thru or inside to collect which is often quicker if its busy...plus no danger of some gormless chap wandering around thr car park looking for your car when they inevitably tell you to park up. But even doing that it's typically still a 10 min wait at least for thr order.
Funny, I never had a problem with custom orders (mine is a triple cheeseburger with extra onions and gherkins). It always served in the same time frame as I'd expected.

My son insists I take anything that remotely resembles a vegetable off his Bacon Double Cheeseburger.

That was the one item missing the other week.

In McD's defence, I jumped on live chat, followed up with an email of my receipt, and netted 3 free medium meals. Which was an improvement upon Mrs T's suggestion that I drive back down there whilst my meal went cold.

Can't comment on BK as we don't have one locally any longer. But it does seem odd that BK took payment for the OP's meal if he didn't actually collect it. I've never missed picking up a McD's order on the app but, judging by the wait, they're cooking it to order and they certainly don't take payment until I've told the app I'm there.

They don't allow you to cancel on the KFC app. They take the money once you order it but will refund it after 5 days if you don't check-in. The McD app allows you to cancel the order before check in.

Well I got a refund, thanks BK. Although took a while to answer.
