Anything except Pedigree.

That is interesting Pedigree the premier pint from the "old" Marstons Brewery before it was taken over by Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries (renamed recently back to Marstons) was brewed in the unique union system and was their flag ship beer. Never cared for it myself either but it kept me in a job for many years.

That sounds fantastic, I haven't seen it around, any idea where I can get some?

I've found it in Sainsbury's and bought it once to try - never again though. It's a bit strange to be honest, like beer with scotch in, but not in a good way.

Spotted some in Asda in other day. I love it lick, will be getting half a dozen or so bottles when I next shop

While I was there I also picked up some back sheep, which I haven't had for a while, again lovely but in a completely different way.

If you like black sheep then I would also suggest some of the other ales from the black sheep brewery, riggswelter is very good, and although only slightly stronger than black sheep (and slightly dryer and lighter) will make you "squify" (technical term) somewhat faster, but an excellent flavour.

Another good one is Tesco's own "Golden Sheep" it is actually a Black Sheep Brewery beer (that becomes very obvious when you read the label) but brewed exclusively for Tescos (well it doesn't taste like any of their others I've tried and I've tried most, although maybe not all). £1.54 a bottle and if you like a good honest Yorkshire Ale, you can't go wrong.

Good good, I will have to try some more from that Brewery. The only slight downfall of £1.54/bottle for golden sheep is that I can get Black Sheep for £1.33/bottle in Asda's 3 for £4 offer!

I took advantage of that offer and got myself some Hobgoblin (a bit malty for my liking, but goes down well with a pack of crisps) and some Theakston XB (always a safe bet). Think i'll go back monday and try a few more

Yesterday evening, I was down in the crypt...

www.merseycamra.org.uk/contents/doku.php?id=beerfestival

What a splendid selection too! beerdrinklickwobblewobblewobble

My fave find of the festival? from Wigan... Allgate's 'Brightblade'. Very, very palatable. 4% with hints of lemon & ginger.

Now all I need to do is find it in a bottle or convince somewhere local to put it on and I'll be a happy man...

Yes you can always get black sheep for bit less, it is their main brew and very good but it is their main supply so will always be cheaper. All I'm suggesting is that if you like a variation on the same theme so to speak, the Golden Sheep is an excellent quality ale which at £1.54 a bottle is actually a bit of a bargain (it will make you rigwelter with very few dips if you get my meaning) and taste's cracking as well.

Pick up a bottle, I'm sure you'll enjoy.

I grew up in a village a couple of miles from Masham, home of Theakstons and Black Sheep (which didn't exist when I were a lad, but was set up by Paul Theakston, a friend of my dad, when the main family sold out to S&N, hence the name Black Sheep) and I was brought up on Theakston's Ales (now back in the Theakston family).

Always enjoy a pint or two of OP, but now I'm down in Wiltshire, my regular tipple is 6X (not bad in the can considering) and some of the local beers, brewed a few miles away by Ramsbury Brewery which are limited in supply, but well worth seeking out if you can.

In the bottles the Youngs special London Ale at 6.9% is rather nice.

In the pub I like to try lots of different stuff, although Adnams broadside or fullers ESB and Youngs Special are nice

couldnt have put it better myself. just been in the barrowboy and bankerr on london bridge drinking fullers ESB, bloody lovely! special london is lovely, as is special. if im really thirsty i'll go for fullers golden pride. its a bit strong which is a problem for such a tasty beer. you want to drink it all night but 3 is about all thats sensible.... you sir, have very perfect taste buds

The banker - an excellent choice IMO.

Hah. Discovered one of theirs this weekend. I've relatively recently moved back to Malvern and it's been a bit of a revelation that there are quite a few good breweries in the area. Malvern Hills Brewery's Black Pear is worth a try. Also, in case anyone in the area isn't already aware, the Nag's Head pub (bottom of Bank Street in Malvern) is well worth a visit. They usually have ***16*** real ales on the go. Over the course of last year they apparently had about 1000 different guests ales.
