Now, imagine the texture of a Walnut Whip centre but with the flavour of Dolcelatta mixed with the crunch and sweetness of the coating of a toffee apple!

It was a mindf!!ck.

Fugu
Pickled octopus
Smoked crabs brains

2 was not disimilar to pencil erasers that had been marinated in vinegar for 20 years.....

But the other two were good.

Fugu is the Pufferfish popular in Japan. It's liver is extremely toxic and if not prepared properly and eaten, you drop dead rather quickly.....IIRC.

Hákarl or Rotten Shark.

In Iceland, they have a tradition that they bury a shark on the beach for months. As it rots, it gives off uric acid, as in urine, yes, that uric acid. They then dig the shark up and chop it into cubes, which are served as an appetiser at their midwinter festival.

And taste of wee. Stale, old wee. Like chewing a rubbery chunk of tramp's underpants (I'd guess).

So revolting, even Antony Bourdain described it as "the single worst, most disgusting and terrible tasting thing" he has ever eaten. And he's eaten some revolting stuff.

Never, ever allow an Icelander to persuade you to try this 'food'.

Video here of Gordon Ramsay and James May eating it as part of a challenge - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKEPPw5Jd2M

Horse. In France. By accident. Tough as old leather boots and utterly tasteless. I thought it was a really bad piece of steak until the reality dawned on me what I had bought (and spent alot of money on...)

Gibbon. Tasty with ginger, garlic and spices. Stir fried. You'd know it wasn't chicken but be hard put to know what it was.

Monitor lizard. Like chicken but with big fishbones in it.

I had Guinea pig in Peru as well.
Tastes like chicken.
I have had it a few times and I would say it tastes more like pork than chicken, especially the lovely crackley skin.
Also ate it in Peru - and for me it was like beef, thin crispy beef. MMMM very nice though. Not much meat on one though.

Emu, antelope, kangaroo, horse, bear, donkey, lamb's brains, calf's sweetbreads, snails, frog's legs, sea urchins - all delicious.

Crocodile steak, thousand year-old eggs - less so.

They say the Guinea Pig's brains are the best bit, but you have to suck them out of the skull. I drew the line at that.
