I recently bought a Breville Sandwich Press TR40. Cheap (£39.99), no corrugated plates but VERY easy to clean. OK for toasted sannies, too. See http://www.electricshopping.com/shop/shop.do?pID=477&cID=59  now reduced by a fiver.

Why not just go for a George Foreman grill? Bet it's cheaper and can use it for griddling other stuff too

Get one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Russell-Hobbs-10810-Glass-...

It's not griddled but makes very good paninis. We bought it about 18months ago for £30 (used to be £60 but was half price), we use it almost daily for toastie and do paninis with nice fillings for dinner atleast once a month.

Gives a very good result, and my uncle actually bought the same machine after eating paninis made on it at ours. It also has the trick hinges to toast evenly. Dedicated makers work better then normal grilling machines.

This, some nice mozzarella, sundried tomatoes, fresh basil, m&s panini roll and salt+pepper is lovely.

Not cheap in comparison to the others mentioned - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cuisinart-GR4U-Griddle-and-Grill/dp/B000H7QV9K

Has the right hinge mechanism and comes with flat pannini plates and corrugated griddle plates, but the real benefit is you can take the plates out for cleaning - let the crap soak off in the sink then stick them in the dishwasher smile

At that price I'd want the bread and fillings for a year !! Looks the Biz though, and a 5 year warranty too.
