I'm currently loving this stuff.

Could do with a bit more spice but the flavour is fantastic.

Any others worth trying?

Is it a sachet of curry sauce then? Worth a punt for 4p!
My current favourite is Asda's Extra Special Korma sauce. Very very rich but very very good. And so different from the usual mainstream coconut overload Korma sauces.

only one i'll buy is kohinoor's makhani sauce, though it seems to have disappeared from the shelves of my local tesco. might have to try one of the others.

Pataks.

Sauces are good, pastes excellent too.

I've used them for years and been very happy.

Was watching a TV programme couple of months back, where a roving Chef shows a punter how to cook their favourite take-away food. This particular one was an Indian meal.

The restaurant that the punters were using regularly had big pots of Pataks curry pastes on the shelves in their kitchen.

The Shaheen range of curry sauces are fantastic. Hard to find stockists though.

This is what I was going to say as soon as I saw the title. It really is very good, isn't it?!

Its a jar, and quite a big one at that, about 500g I think? I have bought it a few times, firstly when me and SWMBO decided to try and minimise our outgoings particularly when it came to food (didn't last long). It is actually not bad at all, I tend to use a lot of additional ingredients anyway and it makes a perfect base for a simple chicken curry when you can't really be bothered. The best thing about it really is the novelty value, I walk round Sainsburies muttering in astonishment, "4P, Four bloody P, Surely the jar costs more than that" etc etc.....
yikes

For 4p it sounds ideal for when I do one of my 'curry ups'
(keep adding meat, sauce, veg, spices to a pot on the hob until it is full, then portion it out into containers to go into the freezer)

Be warned, it is 4p in the big superstore near my mum and dads house, but the smaller sainsburies in town has the bloody audacity to tryand charge 8p for the very same jar! Its just blatant profiteering and I won't be a part of it.

4p for a jar of curry sauce?

Really?

I dare not consider what is in that for 4p

Funnily enough I'm normally quite fussy about ingredients, always check the label for additives etc. From memory the 4p special contains nothing dodgy, I think it is free from artificial colourings and flavourings and has quite a reasonable ingredients list.

ETA - just found this after a quick google

And it's only 4p yes 4p a jar!!

As far as I can tell, that's a squirt of tomato puree, a spoonful of garam masala and a bit of cornflour topped up with water.

I'm sure it will taste ok, but to me it seems like a very bulky way to buy stuff that I already have in the cupboard.

On the other hand, if you were making some chutney or something, it presents a very cost effective way of sourcing empty jars wink

I'm just a sucker for a bargain. Even if I had no intention of ever eating it, I'd have to buy some at that price. Also, I love a bit of filth now and again. I don't see how you could ever hope to replicate it with your own ingredients for anywhere near the same cost too. When I looked up the recipe just now it seems a lot of people aren't using it a base for a curry, more like curry sauce to have with chips and stuff. 4p! Walks away shaking head in astonishment

sounds like you want to be making a sausage curry with this stuff then, truly the lowest rung on the curry ladder!

Sausage Curry!!!!yikes

I bloody love sausages, and I love curry too! This could potentially revolutionise my eating habits. Have you got a recipe for the aforementioned filth meal? One presumes you have to use sausages with a minimum of 70% sawdust for the desired effect.....
