Invite yourself over... got half a bottle, and really not my thing.
Really? Do you normally enjoy islay whisky? I absolutely love Corrvyreckan, it's one of my favourite Ardbegs.

Just as well we all like different stuff, otherwise whisky would all taste the same!

No, I'm a Speyside man.

The Corrvyreckan was a present.

Can somebody offer some help.

I have been enjoying the Dalwhinnie 1990 Oloroso Finish - Distillers Edition and Dalmore 15 Year Old but have not found anything else like these two bottles.

Does anyone have anything to offer or info on another bottle like either of these?
You seem to be gravitating towards the heavily sherried stuff...

Glendronach? Full maturation rather just finishing in sherry casks cloud9
Is it this one your thining of?

Both of those are great, I prefer the 18 personally.

Glenfarclas do some great heavily sherried stuff. As do Balvenie. And Mortlach (16yo Flora & Fauna).

Funnily enough , I did not find Corry to my taste..Yet, I see Lagavulin 16 And Laphroaig cask as my top 2 Islay whiskies. cloud9

I think perhaps my palate may see the Corry as too much of a good thing. Like the peat, smoke , etc, but limits to it. That's why I've avoided Octamore and S'nova etc. Assume I would look upon them in a similar way.

Having said that, in defence of Ardbeg. The 10 has gone way up in my estimation. I used to view it as a little unpolished..as I did Laphroaig 10...yet I do not see that now, in either drams and enjoy them immensely. Not quite up with 'Vulin 16 or Laph cask, but very good all the same.

I reckon my palate has changed, and may still be changing, I packed in the fags some years ago now..so suspect that's a large part of it.

Spotted Naked Grouse, Black Grouse and Snow Grouse when getting the shopping in Asda today.

Anyone tried them?

The Naked Grouse was a lovely looking bottle but the same price as some single malts.

I've been undecided on what new whisky to try, and have resisted temptation to buy a brora 30 on a whim - so I was looking on the master of malts website and thought I'd try some of their 'whisky by the dram'....

Including the Brora as well as a 30 YO highland park, really looking forward to these. As an added dimension I'm tempted to ask my wife to pour them into unmarked glasses and try them blind

Loved the quote on the box they arrived in

I've always been tempted with those samplers, but never taken the leap. How do they compare cost wise?

Johnnie Walker Swing Superior for me tonight, hmm, not that 'different' to standard Swing.

Not got around to trying them tonight - weekend thing I think! They're more expensive than buying a bottle, but IMO worth it for trying expensive whisky that you may not want to buy a full size bottle of before trying. I've been hearing a lot about the brora for example, but at around £280 a bottle I'd like to try it and see if I like it first. Ditto the HP. To make it more interesting a blind tasting should identify if I really do like a particular one!

Another visit to St. George's for me today. Picked up this as it was bottled on my birthday:

This looked interesting as a memento of today:

They had run out of it, but had a tasting bottle open if anyone fancied it. I was driving so couldn't partake.

Bunnahabhain 12 this evening, I was given a bottle for Christmas but shamefully it has remained sealed in the cupboard until now. It's really nice stuff, tastes quite sherried to my inexperienced pallete and the dark colour would seem to back that up but I may be totally wrong! It's not a smoky peat-monster but there's a hint of Islay character in there and at 46% it's just the right strength to enjoy neat, although I may add a few drops of water to see how it changes.

Skal!

I'm tempted to get a bottle of Glenlivet Nàdurra, which Waitrose currently have on offer at £35.88.

However, I recently finished off a bottle of the 12 year old Glenlivet and wasn't overly impressed.

Anyone tried the Nàdurra and care to comment?
