Two very different characters, due to the twenty or so years between the them..
The Kavalan seems to lose some of the subtlety of the standard bottling which is a bit of a trade-off with the heavy sherry influence. It really needs water to get the best of it, but it's very rich and enjoyable even though not overly complex in contrast to the Glen Grant.
The Glen Grant I really like, and it's possibly the oldest bottle of malt I have at the moment (distilled in 1972, and bottled in 2004 at 51%), slightly rich but really well rounded and one I can just sit and enjoy so it's going to be a hard one to replace when it goes..

Can anyone point me in the direction of where I may be able to source a travel exclusive bottle without actually travelling. Specifically a 15 Year Sherry Cask Glen Garioch.

Picked up a bottle from Edinburgh previously, and have since passed through Aberdeen, and Heathrow without seeing it again. Will be in Edinburgh again in May but don't want to be disappointed.
Or alternatively anyone any suggestions for something close to this in taste?

Give Hyde Whiskey a try. I managed to get hold of some free samples by talking to them on twitter. The No 1 President Cask finished in Sherry casks is lovely but I love my sherry finish whisky. No 2 Rum Cask Finish was also nice but not tried No 3 yet which is finished in a Bourbon cask. They are all fairly young 10, 10 and 8

Whilst purchasing some whisky for a German friend (the postage to there is horrendous) I may have slipped one of these into my basket as it looked and sounded rather nice.

Eventually gave into temptation, and ordered one of these myself!! Considering how much I like the Arran Amarone cask it was too hard to resist..Amarone micro provenance

As the weather gets better I tend to move from malt whisky to bourbon for some reason.
Have got a bottle of this coming from Amazon. I ordered it in a deal for a very good price and never expected it to appear but it will be here early next week.
And my father in law rang me the other week and said he had got me a bottle of '12 year old whisky' for a tenner.
Give his last two presents have been utter pish (Bells and Grants) I was fearing the worst but he actually turned up with this:

Jealous of the rare breed, its a great bottle but its just too expensive to buy regularly over here. EC is nice too, very oak-y but i like it.Have got a bottle of this coming from Amazon. That does look nice, but a bit more than I was thinking of spending. Looking at more general supermarket Tullamore Dew/Bushmills sort of level...
Tullamore Dew have a new Cider Cask finish release, could be interestingI also noticed King Alexander III is in stock on MoM at the moment (not checked if it is cheaper elsewhere, just know there are some big fans on here).
Trying the Miyagikyo NAS single malt today. Generally pretty nice for the price point, but don't think it's as good as the old age statements (as you might expect).

Sounds good. Hope you're able to get something good to replace the Glen Grant. It seems the prices for older whiskies just keeps creeping up these days. The Kavalan seems to lose some of the subtlety of the standard bottling which is a bit of a trade-off with the heavy sherry influence. I don't think it's the barrel proof. It's 47% if that helps.
