Any recommendations for sherried whisky? Liking the Aberlour 10 and A'bunadh and was going to grab a 12 or even 16, but feel I should try something else

The 16 is on sale in Sainsbury's at the moment, down to ~£35 I think.

The normal answer on here is Glendronach if you haven't tried any of them. I think Krallicious mentioned it on here when you talked about the Aberlour previously?

The 16 is very pleasant, although not as potent as the A'bundah.

Glendronnach is a very nice sherried dram, as is Ben Riach.

Glenfarclas 17 is lovely. Retail only but some on line dealer have it. The 15 and 18 are also good. I have a 25 but the 17 is. Better for the price in my view

Penderyn do a lovely sherry cask whisky. The Madeira cask, even better! And I say that as an experienced and enthusiastic sherry drinker (it's seriously underrated in the UK).

Is there any love for Talisker Skye here? I've been working through a bottle I received for my birthday last year. It's a serious tipple. I usually go for American bourbon so it's nice tk try something from closer to home.

Laphroaig PX cask might be a good one for you to look out for, as the sherry and peat together really works well in that case..

What's the Dalwhinnie Winters Gold like? Saw it in Costco the other day, very reasonable price.

The Aberlour 16 is lovely actually. I think most options have been covered, but my opinion for what it's worth...

  • GlenDronach 15 Revival (if you can find it) or a cash strength offering
  • BenRiach (the 12yo is pretty good actually)
  • Glenfiddich Distillery Malt ( https://shop.glenfiddich.com/special-editions )
  • Glenrothes sherry cask reserve
  • Dalmnore 15
  • Tamdhu 10
  • Glenlivit Nadurra Oloroso
If budget allows, happy to recommend more. smile

This actually sounded like it could be good for you, but I can't find it anywhere (sadly, otherwise I would have bought it myself, biggrin). Would have been around £70. Colour looks amazing, although always hard to tell it exactly against a white background.

Gutted to have missed out on the 2016 bottling but at least I still have some original left!

Seeing as it's open and therefore worthless I'll give you a fiver to take it off your hands, wink

How do you find it compared to other sherried whiskies?

Haha!
I think I still have about 2/3rds left. Very much a special occasion dram since I'll never find more.

Compared to most other sherried stuff I'd say there's a lot more depth to the flavour. It's very in your face and I like a couple of drops of water with it to let me taste everything.
Still the best whisky I've ever drunk. If anyone got their hands on a '16 and wants to come and compare then that would be brilliant. A dram for a dram!

Sounds great, and matches with my experience of the more "special" Japanese whiskies - there's just so much to find in there! Had been looking at some auctions to maybe get something special, but it seems like things have gone up another step again in regards to pricing for quite a few things. A bunch of bottles of the Yoichi 15yo just went for £240 yesterday!!! It's a fantastic dram, but it's just insane. It also seemed most Ichiro's Malts went up a lot. Quite a few old (but relatively cheaper) Scotch's went up a lot too. Had been trying to get a few things but only ended up with one bottle (Yoichi 90's 18cl). Relatively expensive, but perhaps one of the cheapest ways to taste those older Yoichi's.

Not over here! That's the one good thing about the Scandi monopoly system - one shop has all the bottles and not much buyers so much easier to get a hold of them! The release date would make sense with it being released in Sweden at the end of this month. Problem is smuggling it across the border, biggrin

Any idea on the price for Dark Cove? Assume there will be a committee release and Ardbeg Day release?
