Not sure if I've got the spelling right, but I'm after a suggestion for fish to use in this mexican marinated fish dish.

My wife and used to love it, but some years ago we had an unsettling experince; the acid that the cod was marinating in brought the parasitic worms out. Pretty unappetising, seeing those things waving away at you.

We binned it and haven't had it since.

Apparently cod is often full of these worms which are killed in cooking; can anyone suggest an alternative fish that doesn't have these parasitic worms that will marinate well?

Cebiche or Ceviche

Works OK with Squid. I've also had Monkfish prepped this way which was very good.

I've had it with salmon and herrings, both of which worked well.

Did the squid and monkfish soften down enough? I would imagine they could be a bit tough?

The squid was quite firm but not overly chewy or rubbery. The monkfish was particularly good - sliced rather than the usual chunks you get when cooked traditionally.

Monkfish sounds good.

I think I'll try that and the herring.

Works very well with mackerel, the richness of the fish takes on the lime & spice without being totally swamped

also good with scallops. as as been mentioned, squid is lovely this way (slice very thinly into "noodles" for best results).

Sea bream/black bream is a winner for this! Perfect texture and I have never seen or heard of parasites in it.
